Alpha Question

Hey all you Alpha users.

I am thinking about getting a PAL6035 for the Athlon, but I am wondering about the noise factor. Anyone running an Alpha that could comment on it's noise level?

Remember it's not the Alpha that makes noise, but the fan that's mounted on the Alpah that makes the noise. 🙂 🙂 🙂

Anyway, if you order the Delta special black or what ever it's called, its VERY LOUD. I did not like it so I ordered the sunon fan that is half as loud. I have not tried put it in the computer yet so I gat not say anything about the performance.

I have the Pal6035 with the Delta 38 cfm fan and can attest to the noise. it is loud, but this combo cannot be beat for keeping your system cool with air only.

GlobalWin (Delta Black Label) 60mm Ball Bearing. (I had to be exact 😉)

I have one and I don't even use it because the two Sunons I have mounted on my Alpha P3125 are more than enough, and are much quieter. Now, I can tolerate noise but the Black Label whines like you will not believe..

I was running two of them (Delta Black Labels) on my Alpha 7125 before I upgraded to this T-Bird. It made some noise, but I got used to it, and put up with it due to the unbeatable cooling performance. It is much better with only one on my 6035. My T-Bird idles in the low 30's cel. and has yet to go past 40 cel. no matter what I have thrown at it. It would not be very loud with a Papst or Sunon fan, but you will not see cooling like the Delta out of them.

30-40 degrees? Oh my! I've got to get one! I'm using the lousy fan that came with my GlobalWin FOP32. How much and which fans are recommended? Also, how to attach 2 fans together?

Jin, I have a the spare fan I mentioned in the post above.

I'm pretty sure you can fit it on your FOP32. Is the fan on there now 60mm? If so it'll fit.

You can't find a fan that will cool it better. 🙂 It pushes enough air to make most 80mms look like they're nothin'

cypm..

You know those dust buster hand held vacuums? It's about 1/2 the noise of one of those. Well, it really depends if it's a quiet one or not. 😛

It's a whine. Some people (Russ to name one) likes the sound of 'em. I love fans, but this one's whine is a little too much.

You might want to consider setting the fan voltage for each fan to 7 volts. I'm using a VOS32 and i've set the voltage to 7 volts on my athlon system. It's quiet and provides adequate cooling. Unless you run a peltier cooling system i'd see no reason to even buy an alpha. Overclocking yields on a golden orb vs a Alpha are very minimal and even with an orb your CPU will still last you at least 2 years. I upgrade every 6-12 months and my 7-volt cooling is more than enough.

You'll be surprised how much cooling a Alpha or VOS32 can still do even when fans are set to 7 volts.
