Ok, so I am about to buy this unit to be used with a Papst fan...Anyways, here is my question, should the fan be sucking air from the heatsink or blowing air onto it. I am sure this is a simple thing, but I just don't know the answer. Thanks in advance.

Alpha recommends that the fan suck air off the top of the heatsink instead of blowing down into it. It will be very effective either way, but the ducted design usually works best as Alpha recommends, unless there is some particular reason (say, a side-panel intake fan that blows toward the heatsink and interferes).

I have mine blowing air away from the CPU, as Alpha recommends. However, I've not tried it the other way and so I don't know if it works better that way in my system or not. If you have the time and means, I suggest you try both ways and see which one works best for you. If I'm not wrong, Alpha measured both configurations in a free-air setup, rather than wihin any sort of enclosure, so their results may be different from yours.

I've tried both ways, and the sucking method that Alpha recommends is indeed better. However, the difference is VERY slight (1-2 degrees Celsius, with a 47CFM Delta fan), so either way is fine.
