Alpha PAL8045, ASUS A7V133

Hey everyone - I just installed a PAL8045 on my A7V133, and I've found that the heatsink presses up pretty firmly on the first RAM slot. When I put the RAM in, it's going to be tight - the RAM may even touch the heatsink just barely. Is this okay?

Also - can I insert the RAM stick into a different slot (1 256MB stick)? Say.. into the 3rd slot?

I believe that for the comp to recognize the memory, there must be a stick in Bank0.

Well.. I can fit the stick in.. but then there's the issue of "does it matter if those black thingies on the stick touch the heatsink?" 🙁

I have the same setup and I placed my (only) SDRAM module in the middle slot (slot 1) due to the tight space
between Alpha and the first memory slot... It works nice.

I guess the third (farthest away from HS) slot should work too...

Hmm.. I'll try booting the machine with the RAM in the middle slot then. It actually does fit in the first slot w/o touching the heatsink, unless it is touching by 1-2 mm and then of course I wouldn't be able to tell. I'd feel much better placing it in another slot though.

i'm pretty sure mine is in the closest spot and not touching :/ i can't get to the side of my computer without turning it off and unpluging it tho... and i'm too busy to look right now but i'd swear i had it in slot0.

Should be fine as long as the heatsink is not in contact withany metal on the memory. If that was the case I would take a very small/thin piece of rubber and put it between the two.

Just a thought here...

Look in the hotdeal forum for a Black and Decker RTX (its a dremel) with 55 accessories and nice plastic kit box, for $28. You could grind the heatsink down in a few minutes, just taking off what ya need to. Or ya can let her fly touching. 🙂
