I have heard these units were made to be air sucked and not blowed. Anyone try them both ways and what way cooled better?

I saw this at a site but there was no futher explaination:

RE: Reversing the fans ...
Uh, yeah. My sentiments exactly as it was proven that the Pal6035 performed better with the fan label outward when sitting atop the fan shroud. This is the only time the fan shroud should be used according to the instructions. Was surprised to see that this was not considered. Alright now, do it over."

Depends on the internal layout of your PC. You really need to try both to see which works best for you.

Assuming you have a tower case (of any size), if you have the output fan positioned below the PSU and right next to the CPU, you might get better results with the fan drawing air away from the heatsink. If the output fan is positioned at the top of the case and a good distance away from the CPU, than having the fan blow air onto the heatsink might yield better results. NOTE: if you do have the fan blow air on top of it, be sure to remove the heatsink shroud that comes the PALs or you'll greatly reduce the efficiency of the fan. The shroud is used to force the air to hit the bottom of the fins first when air is drawn away from the heatsink. This, of course, has a negative effect if you have a fan on top forcing air through it.

The default is sucking air from HSF. I suggest u stick to this setting coz ppl at Alpha would have tested both way b4 releasing the product. ;)

I've settled on a 8045 w/Sunon 80mm High Speed
ball-bearing 80x25 4 wire case fan.
42.5 CFM 36.5dB. I assume the fan should suck air off since the 6035 looks like it?

It is designed to have air sucked off the heatsink, and it cools better with the air sucking off the heatsink.

From the Alpha site:

SUCKING

Maybe this should be in the FAQ's? Maybe it is, haven't looked there in a long time....

Whether its 8045 or 6035...still suck air coz the HSF is designed to be like tht.
