There is alittle copper looking sticker at the bottom
of the heatsink. do you remove it before you put the heatsink on the cpu??
 
It looks like a sticker, but it is part of the heatsink itself.

This alpha (6035, what others?) was cast with a copper slug for contact with the CPU core. You wont be able to get it off, so dont try...youll just wind up scratching the surface!

The copper slug is cast into the aluminum sink because copper conducts better than aluminum, but aluminum radiates better than copper. Its designed to pull more heat, faster from the core.

I imagine this is what you are talking about.

if theres a flap on it, pull it off, i don't have an Alpha HSF myself, but i remember seeing my roomates brand new PEP and i think they covered the copper slug with a plastic film, if theres one there, take it off!!!
 
So the alpha is better then an all copper heat sink since the heat goes into the copper fast then transfer over to the aluminum.
 
well, thats the idea, jsbush, but...

The PAL6035 is an older design, and some reviews out there say it cant really handle peltier action, esp. over 80W.

All things being equal, yeah, I'd want a copper slug/plate in contact, then aluminum to radiate. I "feel" that the design of this alpha is a little dated, however. It was originally designed, if i remember correctly, to work with larger-surface die's...much larger than the 100 square mm of the durons/athlons.

I love the alpha; i enjoy surrounding myself with "classic" pieces of equipment. I find it great for aircooling; but if you want to go the next level in cooling, with peltiers, then you might want to consider the next class of coolers.

there is an article over at overclockers.com that talks a little about it. Its frequent that the 6035 is in any comparison of heatsinks; definately a standard.

I got a new 6035 too and it sure looks like a thin copper-colored sticker under a 5X eye loupe. It looks like the sticker is a few mils thick with a tab on one edge. I can even feel the bump on the edge mispatch with my fingernail. Some review sites call it a plate, but that may be misleading. I asked the thickness question on the Gen'l Review Forum and the responses ranged from "..a thick plate" to"..10 mils thick". Nevertheless, it works and I don't know anyone willing to drill or saw theirs in half to prove it.
