Alpha or Swiftech? Which Fan? HELP!!!

I am buying a ASUS A7V266-E with a XP 2000+ and I want to do some OC'ing but I can't handle too much noise. I am leaning towards the Swiftech MCX-462 cause it is a little smaller than the Alpha and the ASUS is somewhat of a tight mobo. Which fans do you people like on those two heatsinks? I have heard really good things about the Sanyo Denki, Papst, and YS-Tech. Basically I am looking for the the best solution with not too much noise (obviously some is necessary). Thanks and remember, money is no object (especially when I am thinking about buying a $75 heatsink)!

$75 heatsink???? Are you talking the Alpha Pal8045? Man newegg has it for $35. Then you can get an enermax adjustable fan for $8. I use the adjustable on my Alpha and am very pleased. You can adjust it to fit your needs, and I like that. Anyway I have never used the other HS so i have no idea.

I've got an Alpha, which currently has a Sunon fan on it rated at about 32dB. I'll be changing that out with an Adda low speed fan shortly to help lower noise even more.

I've tried a number of HSF combos recently. I am very pleased with my alpha teamed up with an 80mm Panaflow.

i agree, a 80mm panflo works real nice on an alpha and that is wat many ppl end up putting on that heatsink.

get the mcx with a panaflo m1a or h1a. The 8045 won't fit on your board, and the mxc is great. For the serious oc'er buy the lowest speed delta (<40 dB ~55cfm). Happy trails!

Another vote for the Swiftech. Very well designed and efficient. A Panaflo would be fine if you like it quiet. You can grab them here. Good Luck!

well, if you can fit the alpha, then go for it. I personally have no experience with the swiftech, but I must say, my 8045 is doing a beautiful job. I am using a YS-Tech 48.5cfm @ 36.9 db fan and it is not too loud (I am comparing this to my old WBK38 37cfm @46.9db fan) It dropped my temps 15c on average from the retail AMD coolermaster and 9C on average from my WBK38. The swiftech may be a better choice, but I know that the alpha rocks. Of course, if it can't fit on your mobo then my entire argument is worthless 🙂 good luck
