"The three stars have seen better days, but I'd like to think they could still do something classier and more dignified than this. Like gay porn."

"As video game adaptations go, even Pong: The Movie would have a lot more personality."

"Actually has an entire group of adults call out to a lost comrade, 'Marco!' What does he expect the audience to do when they hear that? I mean, come on."

"...asking the viewer to accept Tara Reid as a scientist is pure insanity, requiring a staggering leap of faith that I can't even begin to contemplate."

"This is definitely for people who 1) love the video game, 2) think Slater and Dorff are eminently watchable, no matter what bad flick they're in and 3) are wearing industrial-strength ear plugs."

I think the movie you're thinking of is Hide and Seek.

"Reid - whose name should not be found in the same sentence as the words "brilliant" or "archaeologist" or, for that matter, "actress" - plays the sort of brilliant archaeologist who wears midriff-baring baby tees to her museum job and who doesn't know how to pronounce 'Newfoundland'.

I'd like to see the producers spin off her character into her own adventure/archaeology series: 'Indiana Jones and the Temple of Dumb'."

It still did go to the Search page when I checked, but I'm a bit better at searching around than most people ;)

If you select Movies -> Openings from the menu you also see the movie mentioned (it's currently at a staggering 3%), but all the buttons there take you to the search page.

Is this the "Alone in the Dark" video game with the Victorian-era setting where a Sherlock Holmes type investigator enters a creepy old haunted house? Back in the day, that game was one of the best ever. As far as cool atmosphere goes, it's still one of the great games.

Just looking at the movie posters, I would never have guessed that the movie was in any way related to the game.

I seem to remember one of the key features of the Alone in the Dark game being that you were... well, alone. I'm guessing this movie probably has about as much to do with the game as I, Robot the movie did with the book. So they pissed away what could have been a pretty cool suspenseful movie idea.

Yup. That was a great game for its time that scared the crap out of me on several occasions. I think they probably just ripped off the name and didn't intend to make a movie based off the game. The previews don't give me any indication that this movie has any purpose other than being a cheesy-ass Alien ripoff that just happens to feature the stellar acting talents of Tara Reid.

Seriously though what movie executive hears:
"I have an idea for a movie, its going to star Steven Dorff, Christian Slater and Tara Reid"
and thinks to themselves - "This is going to be great, lets make it."

Apparently the former owner of the house was a little eccentric and started playing around with witchcraft or something and unleashed some bad juju before he killed himself. I don't remember there being an incredible amount of plot, although the game more than made up for it in sheer creepiness.

I particularly remember the opening scene when you're in the attic and that monster comes crashing through the window, as well as the scene a little later when you come down the staircase only to see the library doors close by themselves, accompanied by this evil laugh out of thin air.

I can't remember but was Alone in the Dark out first before Resident Evil? I remember being a kid and getting purdy scerrred playing the game with the lights turned off at night. Did this game start the whole survival horror game genre?
