Almost won the Mega Millions lottery

10 of us at work each chipped in $5 to buy tickets for the $330 million jackpot that was drawn last friday for the Mega Millions lottery.

The winning numbers were 8 18 22 40 44 and the megaball was 11.

One of our ticket's numbers were: 8 18 22 31 44 and the megaball 11.

So, we did win $10k to split, so I'm not unhappy with winning $1,000. But, I can't help but think about what-if. The wife and I have daydreamed a few times over talking about what we would have done if our 31 was a 40. Oh well, maybe next time. 🙂

Hey, congratulations!

What are you going to do with the money? I'm up about $500 on Powerball.

A coworker and I are talking about buying more tickets. 🙂 Also, my son just had his first birthday party, so we'll use the money to pay for that (entertaining for 40 people got expensive quick). Nothing too exciting, unless we win if we do end up buying more tickets.

that sucks....being so close...I missed $1M a few years back by 1 number...had all 5 right in a row and the bonus # was off by 1

Out of curiosity, does anyone know how the taxes work on a $1k lottery win? How much can I expect to actually collect, I guessed around $700 but really have no idea.

I won 10K last year with a Mega Millions ticket. One number away sucks. In my case I didn't have to split it with anyone. They took out $2500 federal tax and $600 Georgia state tax so I walked out of the lottery office with a check for $6900.

I had 3 + Mega Ball in this last one ($150) - even that bugged the hell out of me, missing by 2. Missing by one would almost be hard to enjoy the prize. 🙂

Buy 10k more powerball tickets with the winnings. With 10,000 chances NO WAY you can lose.

A++++ logic!! Will take advice again!!

I dont know why, but both of those made me laugh my ass off 🙂

ahhahha same here..my fiancee looked at me wierd because i was laughing...haahah

to OP that SUCKS...i would be daydreaming like crazy. 🙁

Congrats!

1K = 😀
I won like something like $52 on Sports Select once IIRC...most i've ever "won" in a lottery sense.

That happened to me with a big $100 million Florida lottery jackpot. I got all but one.
