today i was building my bros new computer we bought for him. I've previously built one other pc, mine. so i have some experience since i tinker a lot with mine.
anyways, i sat the cpu into the socket (amd 64+ 3200 into a 939 socket) and try to put on the stock HSF. I'm always a little afraid of crushing the cput when securing the HSF clamps. It happened again so i figure i'd reseat the HSF the opposite way. So i take it off and rotate it a 180 degrees. try again to secure the HSF, this time with a little more force. still nothign. i remove the HSF. look down at the mobo and see now cpu. WTF. then i see it glued to the HSF. the thermal paste is unusually sticky (at least to me) so i pry it off. the cpu no longer fits into the socket. i realize when i tried reseating the HSF i must have been trying to force the cpu in the wrong way, thus bending some pins. I check and i see some horribly placed pins. I thought for sure i blew $250CND. but out of desperation i try to straighten the pins out the best my eyes would let me. it wasnt easy. and even after an hour i couldnt get it to sit. but with a little perserverancei managed to coax into the socket. it wouldnt just fall in anymore but as long as it sits i'm ok.
i still wanted to see the pc boot up and it did.
