almost no OC potential on new CPU?!

I just got the new dual core cpu and can't even push it to 2.75ghz without it restarting. My ram (OCZ Gold ddr2667) is pretty underclocked as well, running 260mhz, and I'm just sticking with stock cpu speeds now. I was able to push my 3000+ to 2.8ghz on the same components, so I'm led to believe it's the cpu that can't OC that well. Kind of frustrating, since I've read of ppl going up to 3 ghz with it on stock cooling. Temperature isn't an issue, and going 1.5v doesn't solve it. So is this really an issue with the cpu?

AMDs are essentially "factory overclocked" - there's no room on them like Intel, AMD can't afford to be generous with binning.

That seems odd, if it'll run stock @2.6Ghz then it should at least reach ~2.85Ghz after upping the voltage a good bit.

that is not uncommon the higher-clocked am2 and 939 cpus, actually. the mobo plays an important role is this too, however. what mobo are you using?

I'm using a Biostar T-force 550, not the best but worked swell with my previous cpu. Nice to know if it's not an uncommon thing, though - don't wanna blame my other components for the lack of OC'ing.

@jim, you are evil. good job, though.

@biomanz, I've heard great things about t550. It's probably just a maxed-out cpu. My opteron 180 wouldn't do above 2665 when I ran it in my primary rig for about a month. I always go back to stock on cpus when I put them in my fileserver, however, so it has been relegated to 2.4 ghz hell

i had an x2 5200 in my ex's computer clocked at 3ghz.
