The only time cops will get involved with cybersecurity related stuff is if it was a big corporation that was the victim and they will go balls to the wall to find the person and make sure they get a penalty worse than what a murderer would get. They could not care less about individuals or small businesses though.
Not true. We are talking about $8000 here.
Sure, the OP got it resolved (mostly?), however, that is still grand larceny.
Doesn't hurt to report these things, and if Paypal wants proof of stolen funds at a later date, then the OP will have it.

so i left TeamViewer overnight. password was simple like ferrari1. and someone was able to log in and took control. i didnt know though cause i left home already. first strange text came in... code 12345 is available for the next 5mins for you to login to paypal. i ignored. suggestfull payment $1000 to OnePLus came in email. then $2k, then another $1k, 2k, n finally $2k is when i got home to get Paypal and notice the mouse was moving!
the pc had MYSMS opened in a browser to receive/send text. all the hacker had to do login to paypal with my password already saved in browser and it was easy as pie. they ordered a bunch of OnePlus phones

i opened a Fraud dispute with Paypal already and waiting now. When i called OnePlus, the operator said there's a hold on this order from Paypal already so she cant even cancel the order...i would have to call Paypal myself to do so.

does TeamViewer even have 2fa? how was i targeted and how to prevent?

Ah geez :( Life can be really scary at times. Life happens, sadly :(

Oh definitely report it, you still want there to be a record. But don't expect them to actually do anything other than tell you that you should have been more careful. Same with physical theft. Cops don't care about that, they'll tell you that you should have locked/secured whatever it was better. But still good to report it anyway.

I have TV on a couple computers as a service. Though the account t is locked down with a 16 character password and 2FA. I noticed on one computer that runs 24/7 the TV message box was on the desktop asking me to allow a connection. WTF is that! I just closed the window and ran a few malware scans just in case. Someone must have brute forced the connection username and password? I guess I should look at how to hack TV to mitigate the BS I may face.

I've read on another forum VNC was hacked too. I'm sure that's even worse.

a lot of good lessons here! and i am learning.
i think i might reacted too fast! while punk was controlling my PC, i shoulda try to open a notepad to start chatting to buy time?
since i wiped the drive with an image from 3 months ago, the TV log is gone! i shoulda saved that log to see how times he logged in and what files were copied, if any. contacting TV support now to see if they can help. but since im not a paying customer (free version user), the operator told me to write an email to fraud@teamviewer.com

8000 eur or $9800 phones delivered within 2 days of hack!!! according to these 5 DHL tracking, that i receive via email 7 days after hack:
2980081635
2980099290
2980059600
2980092883
2980041680

so it looks like the thief made of with those phones. even though i called OnePlus and PayPal on the same day of the hack.
unbelievable. it's as if the companies are working with the thief!
i asked PayPal what's going on....the guy said they will handle it on their side. although my money is sitting in my physical bank now, i just dont get it....
