Almost Human - Season 1

The guy playing Adrian, the android partner, is excellent. Karl Urban is okay, but so far his character is like some type of Judge Dredd "Lite", not too creative there. Fair chemistry between the two of them, though, and there were several good one-liners in both eps. I like it overall and give it a 7/10, will keep watching.

It sports every tired cliché in the book -- the disgraced hero who is the only person the captain trusts, the black guy as the buddy side-kick, the Asian guy as the tech guy doctor, the female cop who gets moist at the mere sight of our hero, the snarky other cop who doesn't like our hero -- but this show has bangbots and 35 year old Ford Fusions as the cop car of 2048, so . . .

I'ma give it a shot.

The Asian guy doesn't appear to be a recurring character. The "tech guy" for the show is the painfully geeky android builder/repairman. Also, Urban isn't so much disgraced as surly, paranoid, and old-fashioned, think Smith's character in iRobot.

With an English accent. 🙄

Urban led his former team into a trap from which only he survived. He's disgraced, and only back because . . . he's the only one the captain can trust!

Need I mention the Slavic bad guys?

Cliché quota fully activated, sir!

But it's the sexbot menace that I'm so keenly interested in. This needs to be thoroughly (and repeatedly) investigated. ()🙂

I like that actor playing the bot. It could be ok. When it's a generic formula (buddy cops with a twist), it all depends on if you like the characters (assuming non-wretched writing.)

That's the other lead from "Common Law" -- cancelled buddy cop show from FX, which I really like. The other lead has apparently been on 'The Following' as that second main bad guy. Completely didn't notice it was him.

Not to mention the idiotic British super-techy twins...

They're twins? I thought they were two episodes away from banging. Hmm...

Crap. I DVR'd the premiere on Sunday, forgot how Fox likes to do the double premieres on Sunday and Monday.

Main character on this show is Drago (Drako?) from "Chronicles of Riddick".

I don't think they're twins as in "brother and sister," just very annoying and so much alike. As "geeky" as they seem to be, I don't think they'll ever figure out how to "do the wild thing." (unless it's with someone else to teach them)

I liked that show, too. Great chemistry all around, including the shrink. It's hard for me to understand why some shows don't make it, while far crappier ones do.

Gareth from the British Office F$&& !!

Was driving me nuts trying to figure out where the "tech guy" was from, and I was too lazy to get up and check.

Just checked IMDB mystery solved..

Carry on.

I liked it.

Urban's character is pretty clearly drawing from Will Smith's anti-android personality in iRobot, but keeping his surliness from Dredd, and maybe a little John Spartan humor from Demolition Man (the bit about kids and cats was funny).

Yes, cliches abound, and we've seen it all before (though less so on a TV show, for this particular sci-fi subgenre). I fully expect a robot uprising at some point, and Dorian to struggle with his "humanity". Regardless, I'll keep watching. There's a serious lack of decent sci-fi on TV.

Noticed commercials for The Following. I can't believe that total shit-show is getting a second season.

After thinking about the first episode (will watch the 2nd tonight), I actually like it. It has that feeling of Blade Runner (which I loved), but more consumer friendly (so my GF can watch it as well).

Hopefully, this doesn't get canceled midway through the season.

Good premiere. Have to wait for second episode to show up on demand.

Body count on cops is pretty high... Works with the whole police being overwhelmed thing. Androids are pretty weak.

Will keep watching. Seems a bit high budget though, so hope it doesn't get canned.

I really liked it, esp the 2nd episode. Might be a semi-smart sci-fi show ala Blade Runner / I Robot / Caverns of Steel. I'm excited. Hope Fox gives it a chance.

They cancelled Terra Nova way too early it was just starting to get real good when they did that!

The second episode was better than the first. Actually kinda felt bad for
the sexbot that was killed. Kinda felt like they killed a kid.
I think in general the plots for this series wont be anything special, but there are some nice moments when they question what it is to be human. Hopefully it will get some time to find its footing. You never know with Fox. I'm thinking they could probably do a decent Blade Runner style storyline where the prototypes believe they are alive, which is why they were discontinued. They could even make an android or group of them running the syndicate.

Well, I think the show might be okay as FOX seems to have learned how to count because they knew to show episode one before episode two! :awe:

If everyone says its really good after it canceled sometimes I'll watch it on netflix but even then its meh.

There's no reason for me to watch bad ones, I'll let other people do the filtering.

Why yes, a busy man like you should never waste his time watching what could be uninteresting TV shows. Let the plebeians do the filtering work for you. Someone whose life is so rich and fulfilling that they post over 20,000 times on anandtech surely has better things to do with their time than try out a new TV show.

Episode 1 was okay but I think its budget constraints caused issues, like the rebadged cars obviously driven off a Ford parking lot the week before. There's also a very obvious lack of networking between the robots. Something like that would be tied in with ultra super high broadband at all times. Just a few things about the show annoyed me.

Yeah, he was the most stand-out character of the show, more so than the main cop guy.

They are connected...the first robot partner knew the detective didnt eat noodles the night before when a robot cop questioned him. But its not clear if that was reported in real time, or the robot made a report later. The new partner seems to have good networking.

I don't watch new shows on the major networks until they get at least a second season. I'm not watching their commercials just to get another case of blue balls.
PVRs are awesome. Do you have a cable TV subscription. If yes, why even bother if you're not going to bother watching anything when it first comes out?

I watched about half of the second episode last night (GF wanted to go see Thor shirtless, so we watched a movie) and it wasn't bad. Some of the technology is a bit iffy, but it isn't terrible for a primetime scifi show.

I am hoping the budget stays high, otherwise, this show will get bad quickly. There are a lot of effects and such that just won't work without money.

so is this show as bad as the trailers they've been forcing down our throat would have us believe? no way i'll ever watch it just because i've probably seen more than a seasons worth of it already due to the commercials since they showed it every commercial break this entire football season, but just kind of curious.
