almost had to use my gun tonight...

My dog was outside freaking out. So I went to check on him and there was a coyote. I tried to yell to my dog but he kept charging the coyote. The coyote charged back and bit my dog on the butt. I wasn't going out there so I ran upstairs to get my gun. Got it out of the case, grabbed some ammo, ran downstairs, forgot my flashlight and ran back upstairs, got the flashlight, went outside and the coyote was long gone and my dog was wimpering on the porch.

If that had been a fast moving zombie.... we would have both been dead.

Good thing it wasn't a robber. He wouldn't have waited for you to run the stairs twice to get your gun.

This is why your gun should always be loaded, have a flash light duct tapped to it, and by by the door.

😛

Make sure to leave it on a low table in plain view also.

OP took his lesson from Doom 3. Duct tape a flashlight to a gun? It's a physical impossibility.

While it would be a silly thing to do, I don't see why it would be impossible. I was just messing around though. Would probably not be very safe to do that. 😛

I guess you never played Doom 3. In that game you were forced to change between your gun and the flashlight. Impossible to use both at the same time.

Ohhh I see what you're saying now 😛 I only played it a few times.

That seems extremely out of character for a coyote. All the ones I've seen were very skittish and fled on sight. Seriously, get your dog checked for rabies.

Yep. Not normal behavior. Shot a skunk here about 2 hours ago because it was acting very similar.

OP needs to get his dog checked out ASAP...like tonight.....or be prepared to bury it later.

Can they verify it without having the head of the creature that bit it?

He just needs to make with the vet sure his dog is up to date on its rabies vaccination. Think they can give a booster as well. The dog also likely needs to be quarantined for a couple of days and watched closely.

It's doable with a revolver, wouldn't work with an automatic.

Well it was hard to see but it was smaller and had the real bushy tail. Either way it outweighed my dog 5 to 1.

But he is up to date on his rabies shots at least.

I'd still highly recommend you call your vet and ask if anything else needs to be done, though.

Yup, better overly cautious than having problems with the dog. Rabies aside, you may want to get the bite checked out. They may want to clean up the bite and put it on antibiotics for a bit to prevent infection.

Find a emergency vet RIGHT NOW and get your dog there ASAP, Rabies or not those bites need to be treated or they WILL be infected by morning and then you will have a very sick dog on your hands by weeks end.

should always have your gun lock & loaded & easily accessible. no point in having a gun when you couldn't get to it.
