I was riding to work a couple years ago on the 78 freeway and there was a Ford Expedition in the left lane cruising along at 80mph. I was on my motorcycle and was following behind and to the right side of the lane preparing to split lanes when traffic slowed. The idiot in the SUV was watching me and not paying attention to the road ahead when traffic slowed dramatically. He didn't notice in time to stop and plowed into the car in front of him. I just went around him. Dumb shit.

I see it all the time. Idiots risking their lives and others on a daily basis for a one car length advantage. Modern cars are too complicated, too safe and, too expensive. /shakes fist

Guy in the blue hoopty was screwed regardless of how the SUV reacted, he obviously didn't see the giant blinking arrow in the divider (SUV not blocking his view).

What camera setup do you have? I watched a semi slide sideways down the highway in front of me last night...thinking about getting one.

Was there inadequate warning for the road work? The OP himself was going into the closed lane. I suppose in an ideal situation, the semi' would have slowed down in anticipation of the SUV's foolishness.

It's a bit of a tight setup but you could see why the OP didn't see the arrow. It is a little late notice and in my area that kind of shift would have brought traffic to a halt 2 miles earlier. But the other two are either Zipper hard cores or the oblivious type that think that they have right away no matter the situation. People that think a merge means everyone has to account for them and not the other way around. But they certainly had enough warning. There wasn't an Semi blocking their view and even that second car should have been able to see it unless they were parked for the last mile under the SUV's tailpipe.

i did have an accident today! what do i win?

sitting in traffic on my bike and a lady rear ended me. luckily her bumper just hit my tire and kicked the bike out from under me. frame sliders did their job so the bike had just a few scratches. it rode fine.

I usually use g1w in my suv but I was driving my z4 today. I'm using a headrest mount, because I was using a old contour hd camera. Its my paintball cam, manual on/off. I didnt like wires hanging off the front so I have it mounted next to head reset

On the suv, its bigger, lets me hang stuff without bothering me

I recently got a hang on rear view mirror off amazon for 50 bucks, im testing it for my dad, ill post the item and pics when I get home. So far its pretty good.. doesn't stick out

Speaking of dangerous driving, looks to me like you were following that truck way too closely.

I won't even mention the apparent lack of a turning signal as you switch lanes...I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you actually did finish clicking the stalk down.

He used a turn signal, pretty clearly. If you bump the stalk on those it will flash 3 or so times to indicate a lane change.

Sure you didn't see the BMW on the steering wheel and assume?

That still sucks. A lady rolled up behind me when I was stopped in traffic on one of those straight off ramps that ends in a T and a red light to turn left or right. I got lucky and spotted her coming up fast and I was able to juice it and pull up next to the car that was in front of me. She screeched to a stop about a foot from that guy.

If you were farther away from the big rig, you could have seen around it better, and you'd never have tried to pass it. You'd have seen the move over arrow much earlier.

OP you need to leave appx 3 seconds of distance between you and the vehicle in front of you. Especially on the highway. This is how those 50+ car crazy pileups happen, a conglomerate of people who fail to leave sufficient room for emergency/defensive driving. It doesn't just give you room to react, it gives the vehicle in front of you or to the sides of you room as well.

The SUV did not yield right of way to a working vehicle and placed construction/road workers lives at risk.

The hoopty was following too close.

You were following too close.

The 18 wheeler seemed in a tough situation... he had vehicles flying onto him from the left. A vehicle on the right...and you riding him on his ass.

People could have died.

Thankfully nobody did, and everyone can simply adjust their driving behavior.

This is also a problem I see with major highways that have zero shoulder...it's a terrible problem.

Following what is essentially a giant wall so closely that you can't see anything beyond may not have been one of OP's best decisions. However, for now anyway, he is still among the living and can happily read us criticizing his driving habits on a Christmas day.
