I was sitting at my table at Pizza Hut here on Baker Street with my wallet out and my cell phone resting on top of my wallet. I was waiting for the server to come collect my check. My wallet was out because I was paying by Credit Card so as soon as I got the CC back I'd pop it back in my wallet and be on my way.

While waiting for the server to come and collect the check, these 2 spanish kids (one about 15-18 year old and one less than 10) come and the older one asks me if the table next to me is occupied, while the younger one is standing a good 3 feet away from him looking around. I say no and he instructs his brother (speculation) to come and sit there and as soon as they sit the older guy takes the little specials triangular menu off the table and asks me if they have this pizza here and I said yes. The younger guy in the mean time opens up a sheet of a4 size paper and tells me food food. I was under the impression that he wanted me to write what he wanted in english so they could order it.

The younger idiot though gave it away. He slowly moved the paper right above the wallet and the phone and I immediately knew something was up and held on to my phone and wallet with my right hand and grabbed the check and CC with my left. As soon as I did that, they started walking away.

Had they been succesful I'd have lost £200 odd, all ID cards, and my sweet AMEX credit card.

Phew.

Are you on vacation? You wouldn't have LOST your 'sweet' Amex card - all you have to do is call them and they'll overnight you an emergency replacement to your hotel. Good job foiling them though.

Yea, I know I wouldn't have lost it. But still the thought of it out there while I fumble through Londons directory or directory enquiry service to find out AMEX's tel number is painful.

Not here on vacation. Studying here for a year.

Even if they took ur wallet/cell and grabbed it, you wouldn't have lost it. I'm sure you could have made a ruckus and everyone would gang up on those two people and get your stuff back.

True.

But, if they left taking my wallet or my phone, I wouldn't have realized it. I'd first start searching my pockets for them and they would have a good head start before I realized it was them who took 'em.

Woulda been cool if you grabbed your stuff then grabbed one of them by the arm and then like, got him in a headlock or something...

But yeah, better off that everything is fine well and good.

Let me get this straight. You're in London, England and you're eating at a Pizza Hut?

Yeah, I studied at the University of North London for a semester. Moved like 5 times while I was there, since I didn't want to live in the dorms.

It was good times...just loved the accents of people, except during class...kinda lulled me to sleep. =p

Just watch your pockets on the tube during rush hour. And in Leicester Square.

There's an international Student house at Great Portland Street Station if you ever need a quick place to stay. =) They also have weekend trips and such that you can go on if you wanted to see the sites. I went on a trip with them to Brugge, Stonehenge, and I believe Amsterdam. That was a busy weekend ;)

::sighs:: I really miss London, You're gonna have tons of fun!
