I have a tendency to bust out the middle finger when I shouldn't also. I mean, the person on the receiving end usually knows they deserve it, but it can escalate quickly if they are a hot head.

A long time ago after nearly head on colliding with me I gave this asshole the one finger nod of disapproval and he actually got out and came to my driver's side yelling. Gave him a thumbs up and drove away. He chased me for a while but eventually gave up.

WTF is it with people driving.

Isn't the correct thread title "Almost got into a fight at lunch".

You don't know whether or not you would have won.

Not in my experience. Only rarely do people assume any fault is theirs. Maybe later after they calm down but nearly every case of someone doing something blatantly wrong, and me letting them know results in rage from them.

The concession makes for a better story imo.

I try to give them nothing in that respect. Even if I'm being tailgated, I won't brake check or even slow down a whole lot at once to make them pass. Only gradually decrease speed ~1mph every so often until they do, not a significant enough amount to make it obvious it's in reaction to them.

Usually bikers especially tend not to get too frustrated with slower traffic, just find a way around instead of instantly getting that mad & immediately start screaming obscenities like that. It was still a funny story though, and with a good zinger at the end- he had sooo much to say all that time, but THAT one certainly shut him up! LOL!

One time getting on the highway a woman in a van in the merge lane apparently did not like me trying to get on the highway, so she pulled up beside me, looked over and started saying something. Mind you, our windows are up, so I don't have a clue what she was saying. I looked at her and just mouthed "whatever" or something clever.

Any case, she slows, comes around to the other side (now in a long exit lane) and looks over at me again and starts mouthing something again. So, I raise my right hand and start making mouthing/yapping movements with it. She apparently did not like that because you could see her get visibly angry and ramp up whatever she was screaming at me.

Funny at the time.

I'm 6'4" and built, but I haven't thrown a punch since high school. This guy looked like he gets in fights daily. He probably would have won.

...later you learned she was trying to warn you your gas tank was on fire ;)

Well if a fight did ensue your adrenaline would get jacked up quickly and I'm betting he winds up on bottom and gets the worst of it.

I've never seen people giving the finger to others on the road, it seems stupid to me. It creates unnecessary risk if you're dealing with psychos, just use the horn.

I was in a similar situation several months ago.

Unfortunately the days are gone when you could just kick someone's ass and be done with it. Now you'd go to jail, lose your job, or possibly end up with the guy burning your house down or something. It's not worth ruining your life to prove a point.

Some people are just douches. He's on a bike. I don't know but as long as there isn't a Ferrari or 5.0 mustang next to me I can pretty much zoom right past all the cars on my bike. No need to cause unnecessary violence.

I was riding one day and apparently some kid in a ricer didn't like that I passed him on my bike. So he tries to get on the other side of me and merge into my lane, forcing me to go into the middle section, almost went into oncoming traffic. At that point it doesn't matter how much gear you wear.

I'm calling shens on your reply to him.
That is far too long of a reply to get out during a shouting match.

So would the other guy's adrenaline.

Yeah, fighting is one of those odd things that guys hardly ever do, yet they all think they'll be awesome at it if it happens. It's like they all say "I've never thrown a punch, but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night!"

He was shouting. I was mostly staring at his leather vest.

One of my super powers is quick retorts. My family keeps encouraging me do try out stand up, but I'm too chicken :p
