Almost got busted....

Since I'm bored tonight I thought I'd share my experience with ya...

A few weeks ago I bought a cheapo radar detecter from the Hot Deals forum and thought it'd be cool at least for the compass. So I've been using it whenever I drive around...

Tonight I was coming home from my friends and had just pulled onto the highway and getting up to speed (limit was 45 mph) and my radar detector said "Instant On." I had never seen this, but I read about it in the manual (thankfully) and knew that I was being tagged. Luckily, however, I had just started accelerating (sp) and was only at around 42mph when the radar detector went off. So I stayed under the speed limit and sure enough there were two sherrifs about 100 yards ahead of me just sitting in the middle of the median with their lights off. I almost wanted to wave.

So... the moral of the story? Something that you might think is junk, might turn out to be precious.

Yep, good 'ol PNI radar. I'm sure it's not the greatest, but I sure liked it tonight.

Also, just to note.... I usually go around 50-55 down that current road, so who knows what would have happened.

I wouldn't call mine a "better detector", but it does come with VG-2 something-or-another... which hides from radar detector detectors.

I should probably get one, I tend to speed a bit, but i've been lucky so far.

I'm not sure all of the ins and outs of the VG-2 stuff that the radar detectors come with, but when it detects the "detector detector" it changes frequency or shuts off temporarily... I'm not sure what, but know that many have them.

some (police) radar guns can detect (driver) radar detectors. So some of the (driver) radar detectors now have some technology called VG-2 that "hides" from the (police) radar detector dectectors. Get it?

I speed so much that I went out and got a valentine1 (illegal in Virginia, but who cares) and I must say that this thing is incredible. I have only been in a car with a radar detector once before, and this thing just simply blew the other one away. I don't know if it was worth the $400 I spent on it, but I can say it has saved me from 5(maybe 4, one was kinda marginal speeding) tickets in the past 2 months.

That PNI thing is pretty good. I got mine too at buy.com....use it mostly as a compass. I get Ka band falses all the time which is weird because not that many devices use that freq....

Didn't anybody tell you, stealth paint is complementary for running seti. It came with my beer, babe and hot tub package.

Yeah, thats what that VG-2 thing is It detects the radar detector detector, and then shuts down the radar detector.

It reminds me of the electronic thumb....Douglas Adams, anyone? At any given time, half the scientests in the universe were making a beter electronic thumb (opened up any pasing spaceship to you, allowing you to board), and the other half was trying to stop it.
