The car was likely around 20-25 mpg originally? I don't know much about 1994 Altimas lol. You would have to have some seriously wrong to get that bad of mileage, like a clogged cat, totally f'ed O2 sensor, REALLY clogged air filter, leaky fuel system, etc.

OR you just miscalculated your mileage ;) To be fair, have you put on tires taller than stock? Not only can taller (ussually heavier) tires decrease gas mileage but it might affect your odometer reading depending on your car (big tires on my Jeep for example screws it up).

that terminology makes no sense but thanks

edit:
Yes it does nvm im sick

He is referring to your exhaust I think.

40$ to increase your gas mileage to normal isn't TOO bad of a deal :p. Is it throwing codes? If you were to keep it...get new plugs, fuel filter, balance the tires (make sure they arent warped or bald too), alignment (maybe--I don't know the condition of your car), air filter, etc, etc.

In response to your thoughts of getting a new Fit, the 2009 revamped model is supposed to be at dealership next month.

Also in response to your talking about getting a used Fit, you probably shouldn't because they hardly decrease in value on the used market.

Yea it's probably the worst time to get a car like that. They are expensive right now, used or new.

My family has a fancy for buying new cars in january all but 1 was bought in january
on top of that we normally get really nice deals on then (for example $28 500 out the door for a tech rdx)

and the one (1997 town and country) that was bought in February, no one drives it

I find a lot a luck buying in April and May. Though the newer (complete redesigns) models are always expensive.

Disconnect the O2 sensors and see if anything changes. From what I know, when you disconnect the O2 sensor, the car runs in open loop mode (like when you first turn on the car) and if it acts different, gets better mileage or what ever, then it's definitely the O2 sensor. 13mpg is really bad, how does the exhaust look? How does it accelerate? Another thing you could try is disconnecting the exhaust before the cats but after the manifold just in case your cats are clogged. Tire pressure ok? The most important question is, how does the car perform? Hesistates? Anything? I could make a list of a ton of things but you need to tell us what you've noticed.

Ill give that a tried

how does the exhaust look?
There is some gas vapor

How does it accelerate?
Hesitation at first but then through the gears its fine

Another thing you could try is disconnecting the exhaust before the cats but after the manifold just in case your cats are clogged.
Will put that at the end of all solutions, never have dealt with the exhaust

Tire pressure ok?
Yes, it's checked once every 3 tank fills

The car will start when the engine is cold fine, but if the sun is out and warms up even the slightest bit then i have to hold down the gas pedal until the engine starts turning then it wont idle so i have to hold the gas down to about 1500rpm for a couple of seconds till it can idle on its own

If the car is running that bad, I'd almost expect a check engine light to be on. Head to Adv Auto or Auto Zone and have them pull the codes from the computer - maybe it is throwing a code, but not a check engine light?

Air filter
Vacuum leak
Oxygen sensors
Fuel filter
Spark plugs & wires
Mass air flow sensor ($$$)
Tire pressure
Stuck brake caliper (causing increased drag on wheels)

All common things related to fuel economy issues...

Theres no light, but ill try out for codes

Air filter
Possibility, ill give it a check

Vacuum leak
All new lines (2 months)

Oxygen sensors
Probably

Fuel filter
New as well (2 months)

Spark plugs & wires
Mass air flow sensor ($$$)
Both are new

Tire pressure
Stuck brake caliper (causing increased drag on wheels)
Ill check both

lead foot, beating on the car or your bad driving habits in not keeping the pedal in a stationary position as often as you can?
I knew a lady that would speed up to the speed limit, then let off the gas till it goes 5 mph under speed limit then put her foot back on to get back to speed, then off, then on, then off, then on, needless to say I completely hated getting a ride with her driving.

In not learning how to keep the pedal still, letting off going down hill, and giving it extra gas while going back up, but rather keeping the pedal still , even if you drop 5 mph going up, you wont say any money on gas, and get piss poor mpg.

Also if your light is not or to put a code in for the o2 sensors, its not them. For if they did fail, and not turn on the light, the car would chug, and may be seeing a ton of black smoke out the tail pipe which is unburnt fuel. Not to mention you wouldnt b able to stand close to the exhaust without being choked to death. for the computer is just going to go nuts not knowing whats coming out the back end, think the motor is running to lean and with rich the hell out of it. But then again, you would see smoke, the motor would run like total shit, and the cel will be on for sure for no light, no code stored.

That car should only have 1 mass air flow sensor, not 2.

If it has never been changed and you have over 100k it could be a little dirty. My mazda b4000 had a dirty Mass airflow sensor and I was able to buy it cheap as the owner and his mechanic could not find the problem.
