no way its T1, cable, nor DSL

my guess is OC3 or t3 (45mb)

its a college connection in my apartment
OC192 to microsoft and then a OC48 out to the internet
I get 10megabits of it

btw, on a good day i can break 8megabits upstream
it'll give you an error saying it cant accurately report anything above 8megabits :-]
my download will sometimes break 7

Ever since I tweaked my cable connection, my speeds have more than doubled!

I consistently get speeds of about 2500kbps.

Just did a test now, result; Speed 2919(down)/132(up) kbps.

i just benchmarked at the university computer lab where i work. is it normal to have faster uploads than downloads?

My fastest clock is over 1MegaBYTE a second when downloading winzip (they have fast servers) but I havet tested on DSL report and have since moved ISP's

It's fairly common, but your upload is considerably faster. You may need to adjust your TCP/IP settings to open up your download.
