Savingxoom.com has an allied 300w ps on clearance for $18 and shipping was $10 for me (UPS ground). Seemed like a pretty
price to me for an allied ps. I needed one because a Deer ps on one of my machine keeps randomly rebooting. Hope this isn't
a repost. Here's the link300w ps

Anyone know if this is a good power supply? The only 300 watt allied power supply on AMD's recommended list only goes up to an Athlon 1.1

I know that there are some power supplies that are only a little bit more, but I'm looking at minimizing cost, and I thought others might be as well :) 300w is more than enough, especially if you're replacing a ps in an old system.

I'll let everyone know my experience with this ps and savingxoom.com as well.

DO NOT BUY THIS POWER SUPPLY. I bought the 350 watt allied for $40 shipped about 5 months ago. It burnt out a month ago. It turns out it is a deer power supply and I have been unable to get an RMA on it(www.deer-group.com has no RMA information and the vendor only takes RMAs for like 30 days). Only buy this power supply if you want to buy another one (and maybe a new motherboard/some more drives/cpu/ram/etc) in 3 months.

Oh yeah, allied is actually deer. On the side of the allied PS box there is a reference to www.deer-group.com.

Wanted to make that clear as SwishSween just said he was having problems with the deer power supply he is using right now.

I want to also add this, I was happy with the service savingxoom.com gave me when it came to ordering/shipping. The item was packed well, shipped for a reasonable rate, and got here quickly.

I have heard good things about hi-power power supplies. The next one I go with will probably be one of those, or I may go all out and get an Enermax.

Shafta, thanks for the heads up, but I already ordered one. The ps on my g/f's computer is failing. Also, the web site said the
manufactuer is apex for the 300w. So are apex and deer the same as well? I want to get a cheap, but reliable ps. Thanks for
the help. -- Swish

I don't know if deer is the same as Apex, but what I can tell you is the box your power supply will arrive in will have www.deer-group.com printed on the back of it. And on the top it will have a big yellow ALLIED logo on it.

An update though, I emailed savingxoom and they issued me an RMA on the 350 watt I bought. I was courteous and asked if they would be willing to help me out and they replied with an rma #.

So even if the power supply does die a few months down the road you should be able to get an RMA with them if you are courteous in your emails.

Hey I am wondering. Is it possible to buy a PS in Comp USA with extended warranty just like the one you get for computers? If so it would be great for generic PS.

for people looking for something a little more high end check out the enlight 340w. It has good ratings on the rails and it also has pots to adjust both the 5 volt and 3.3 volt rails. The power supply is amd approved for the athlon xp 2000+. The vendor that is selling it for that price is really cool, my first enlight was defective and they sent me a new power supply out and a label to have the defective one picked up and sent back to them at their cost.. also the power supply in the picture isn't the enlight they sent me, the real enlight has a large rocking switch to turn cut the power off and the one in the picture does not. Also, the enlight has a motherboard connector so that you can monitor the power supplies fan rotational speed with software, and its also pentium 4 compat

pandabear, I got the compusa ps. It has warranty for 1 year, provided by compusa. It is indicated in the paper coming with the ps. I think maybe it is not bad. It has 6 outputs for harddisk and cdrom. Not sure about the reliability because I am just beginning to use it.
But it is a 3 days sale.So now it is more expensive than other better brands powersupply.
BTW: I don't think the compusa ps is the FMI one shown on its website because the one I got is only one input. No output to monitor and switch.

I finally got my ps in today and it seems pretty decent. No mention of deer on the outside at all. It's probably the case that allied rebadges different makers for various wattages (300w, 350w, 400, etc). I've yet to test it, but I'm pleased with savingxoom, too.
