Since the 15th century, Uppsala University has been a bastion of higher education, enlightenment and tolerance in Northern Europe.
Uppsala, located just north of Stockholm in Sweden, like so many places of academia, is a place of liberal sensitivities. Students ponder the unfairness of capitalism, the oppression of Western culture, the self-satisfaction of true European style progressive thought.
Amidst the willowy blonds and the long haired students just out to get an education and to do some research, there is a group of malcontents more extreme than even the small groups of communists and anarchists that are commonly found in schools like Uppsala.
Like the communists and the anarchists, these malcontents do not accept the model that Sweden, Scandinavia, Europe, Western culture represents. They loathe it.
The freedom of expression that Scandinavia is known for is blasphemous, the tolerance of diversity is heresy, the peacefulness of academic research is intolerable in the face of the injustice of being a righteous minority.
No, these are not fundamental Christians, the bugaboos of the atheists, the progressives and the leftists here in the United States. The Christians are quietly working on post doctoral research. No, these are not Calvinists or Lutherans or Buddhists, either.
There are 30,000 university academics at Uppsala. The Finns are the largest non-Swedish minority in town. The second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth largest non-Swedish minorities come from Iran, Iraq, Turkey, Syria and Lebanon. And, like in most of Europe, some of these invited students and immigrants are very, very angry at being in a place so absolut-ly full of infidels.
The liberal students of Uppsala, entirely appropriately while attending a lecture on free speech, just learned first hand the limits of tolerating the intolerant.

Raging Muslim students attacked artist Lars Vilks during a free speech lecture in Sweden.
15 Muslims screaming “Allahu Akbar” rushed the podium, headbutted Vilks, broke his glasses and tackled him to the floor.

Vilks has been receiving death threats since he drew an image of the prophet Mohammad with a dog’s body.

Lars Vilks told The Associated Press a man in the front row ran up to him and head-butted him during a lecture, breaking his glasses but leaving him uninjured. It wasn’t immediately clear what happened to the attacker.
Vilks has faced numerous threats over his controversial drawing of Muhammad with a dog’s body, but Tuesday’s incident was the first time he has been physically assaulted.
Earlier this year U.S. investigators said Vilks was the target of an alleged murder plot involving Colleen LaRose, an American woman who dubbed herself “Jihad Jane,” and who now faces life in prison. She had pleaded not guilty.
Vilks said a group of about 15 people had been shouting and trying to interrupt the lecture before the incident at Uppsala University.
Many of them stormed the front of the room after the attack and clashed with security guards as Vilks was pulled away into a separate room, he said, describing the scene as “complete chaos.”
“A man ran up and threw himself over me. I was head-butted and my glasses were broken,” Vilks said before hanging up for questioning by police.
He drew the Prophet Mohammad with a dog’s body. Now, he must die.
