I own the big brother(42") to this set and it is awesome. Supports up to 1920x1080p resolution on both DVIs and the HDMI port as well as the RGB. The downside is there is no internal tuner, but if you use your computer as a DVR or have a DVR then this will be wonderful for you.

I have the 42" Westinghouse also...had it for about 2 months now and it's been great. The remote does suck, but the picture quality has been great for DVDs/HD gaming.

Side bar:

I've seen many of the high end LCDs and Plasma's in action, and I'm also a fussy viewer when it comes to video broadcast. Friends used to come over to my house and watch my collection of Laserdiscs long before DVD's were a concept because the quality was a quantum leap over VHS anything. I've got 5 years of intense video analysis under my belt as well, so I'm fussy about picture quality.

In anycase, I've spent many hours playing Xbox 360 on 42" and bigger LCDs in hi-def, and there's no way I'd go back to standard broadcast console gaming. Sporting events broadcast in hi-def look incredible on my friends state of the art LCD's and plasmas.

However, all my DVDs are conventional resolution, and most of the TV stations I watch are standard broadcast. The best Xbox 360 games I've played don't improve much beyond a 27" LCD because they are only 720p and look heavily aliased after that. That being said, I've yet to see *any* large LCD or plasma display non Hi-Def video a fraction as good as my 31" toshiba conventional TV. The big LCDs are forced to upscale lower rez video to the point it looks fuzzy, distorted, heavily processed, and far worse in my opinion than watching that same video on a conventional set that doesn't have to invent information that isn't there.

That being said, other than for Xbox use, why should I buy a big LCD that has to inflate 400 something lines of resolution to a picture quality worse than VHS?

Otherwise, the most vivid LCDs I've seen, and closest to Plasmas in this respect are Olevia's.

ok so i bought the 37" LCD and then went to walmart and got a DVI-HDMI cable for my cable box.

All I can say is WOW. watching the HD channels really makes me wonder why I waited so long.... the discovery channel is AMAZING!

I have played the Xbox for a little bit as well and Dead Rising looks MUCH better than my SDTV did! On my standard TV I could barely read the small writing in Dead Rising because it was so small, not it is crystal clear.

I also have to say that I was using component connectors for the video/audio before, but when I connected the HDMI cable there was a huge improvement.

I'm still considering the 42" but for now the 37" is kicking ass.

Get the 42" Sceptre from Costco. 1080P. 42". Can't be beat.

37" is too small.

Well the 42" sceptre from costco is what I am considering. I may order that online and once it gets here return this one. But can it be THAT much of a difference between 37 and 42???

I mean is it worth an extra $650?

In the store it's not a Sceptre brand, the brand is Vizio.

There is the 37" LCD for $999 and the 42" LCD for $1599.

The 37" is real nice and a good deal, but that 42" kept catching my eye.

I just don't know which to get. Financially the 37" makes a lot more sense, but I don't know how much better a 42" would be.

The Vizio is nice, I have the 37 but the 42 has a better picture in my opinion.

I'm still unsure as to whether the 42" would be too big for my living room. It's not a huge room and I'm afraid it will feel like I'm sitting too close.

I did notice that the 42" looked a bit nicer, but is it $600 nicer? That's what I'm trying to figure out.

Unfortunately I don't have a dark room. The room I watch TV in has a huge window and let's a lot of light in, so that wouldn't be too good of an idea.

Still waiting to see how anyone can justify a 42" over a 37" :)

We (Best Buy) carry a Westinghouse 32" for $809. Grab a 10% off coupon, and you'd be set. 46" LCD's are VERY expensive; starting around $3K retail. I haven't seen any 50" LCD's.

32" is definitely smaller than what I want. Really won't go any lower than 37" at this point. I don't need anything bigger than 42" because the room I am putting it in isn't that big.
