All you Canadiens...I am planning to visit Vancouver for two days. Advice needed.

What are good things to do there? Places to see, etc etc. I'll probably be there Sat Night and leave Tues morning. Any input will be helpful.

Try too pick up a free newspaper called the Georgia Straight. This will give you all the entertainment events going on in town. You can find them all over town. What do you like to do? Maybe I can give you some ideas.

Cheers,

Well I'll be meeting a friend and she likes to dance so she probably knows the hot spots. She goes to TWU.

I dunno, I like clubbing, eating out...seeing interesting places. Actually I'd like to see what makes Vancouver special. Just like if I'd go to Texas, I'd want to see hicks cause thats what makes Texas special.

jk all you Tejans.

Definately get a copy of the Straight.......... lots of good restaurant reviews & a listing of all the clubs and what is going on. If you've come to eat I think Vancouver is your town, we have so many good restaurants in various styles of food (I've been told our sushi is great & at a reasonable price).

Here are some suggestions:

1. Stanley Park.......... Large urban park in downtown Vancouver with lots of big trees & the Vancouver Aquarium (pretty good if your into that kind of stuff). Also a nice 10 km walk called the Sea Wall surrounds the park

2. Denman & Davies area downtown, nice placec to walk with some funky restaurants. (be aware that Davies street is the 'gay' part of town)

3. Robson Street......... the most expensive retail spaces in Canada......... if your lucky you will see some movie or tv stars walkin up & down the streets.

4. Commercial Drive......... funky restaurants & shops (many ethnic italian stores)

5. Little India (name self explanitory............ Main St. & 49th Avenue)

6. Chinatown (Main St & Pender) typical china town but don't go to main & hastings......... not only the poorest community in canada but has lots of drug users & not a good scene at night.

7. Gas town hard to explain........ kind of touristy close to downtown. Some nice art galleries

8. Clubs......... getting a bit old for that scene but I like a club called Sonar & a jazz club called The Purple Onion (in gas town) If your into strip clubs it's Brandi's (Dunsmir & Hornby) bets placec in town but $$$ (dress coded.......... no jeans or running shoes......... 25% of customers are women) 😀 Best to look at the Straight for more club suggestions.

9. Queen Elizabeth Park (lots of flowers) good view of mountains & downtown)

10. Granville Island Public Market (farmers market with art galleries & neat shops)

11. Kitsalino area........... on broadway and also on 4th Avenue (these streets are parallel) This area has many shops that deal in unique items like the flag shop & also a lot of snowboard/water sports fashions & equipment (ie. boogie boards) Also lots of good restaurants & cafes

12. Kerrisdale area (41st & West Blvd) Funky Shops & some nicec cafes.

13. If your into Camping or outdoors stuff there are lots of stores on Broadway between Main St & Cambie St. The best is Mountain Equipment Co-Op.

14. For mall shopping stay down town in the Pacific Centre mall or go to Burnaby (neighbouring city) on Kingsway there is the Metrotown mall & Metropolis complex.

15. If you like to ski or snow board we have three nice mountains you can try that are 20 minutes from downtown Vancouver, Cypress Bowl, Grouse Mountain, & Seymour Mountain. If you had more time you could take a 2.5 hour drive up to Whistler/Blackcomb ski resorts....... grreat night life.

Also remember since you are staying more than 48 hours you can claim the GST taxes (7%) back from all purchases over $50. I think you have to go to the duty free shop or Canada Customs before you re-enter the US and sign some forms.

If I remember something else........... I'll post. Have a good visit. 😀

Cheers,
Aquaman

Vancouver is in BC right?
Don't they allow you to touch the merchandice at strip bars or am I thinking of another city?

well, do they?

Bring some warm clothing, it's going to snow Sat/Sun. Also be prepared for rain Mon/Tues. Skiing/snowboarding should be good.

I used to live in Vancouver and must say that Aqua's list is a good one to follow. While your there, check out the restaurants! If you've never had Vietnamese, Indian, Thai, or some other ethnic food, Vancouver is an excellent place to try them out.

Technically no, but I've heard a few things about the back rooms at Brandi's, and the Number 5 Orange 🙂

Oh, and the REAL little india is scott road and 96th in surrey/delta. 🙂
Another good peeler bar is called the Cecil. Just at the north end of the Granville St. brigde (just downtown).

Robson is definitely fun to walk down, but I hear we're gettin rain rain rain this weekend (after the snow saturday...) so you may want to find indoorsy type things to do.
*note* snow here in march is about as common as rain in the sahara. actually, snow past the second week of january is rare... thanks el nino 🙂

English Bay (Denman and Davie area) has palm trees...

Easily the nicest club in town is the Commodore Ballroom. Probably the best place in NA to see a concert. Check ticketmaster to see if there's a show there.

Definitly hit SteamWorks Brewing @ 375 Water St, just on the edge of Gastown.

There's a nice little bar over on 4th St called Tatlows Tavern. Excellent place. Also on 4th is a restraunt called 'Death by Chocolate'. 😛

You might want to hit Canada Place and GM Place while your in town.

If you get in for Saturday night in time for hockey, head to Malones on Cornwall and (vine?). Hot waitresses, good sports bar. 🙂

Last year I went to Vancouver for three days. It's a nice and quite compare to Silicon Valley.
I went to Stanley Park, downtown VC (nearby the park, I think), Victoria Island (or some island's name like that.) It was pretty cool to spend about an hour on ferry to get there, though.
I also went to Hell's Gates.
If you'll be driving, pls keep in mind that they use metric systems theres (i.e. Kilometers, and Km/hr). The freeways are small and the signs are kinda confusing.
Last but not least, you'll hear a lot of ppl ending their sentence with eh. It's kinda funny, eh?

Also no drinking liqour in public 😛

Umbrella? 😛

Sorry, that's just so stereotypical of us Torontonians to say that.
I, myself have yet to visit BC, but would love to one day. 🙂

AubZ: Nope, I've never been to the center of the universe! 🙂

The weatherman has predicted snow/rain for the next 4ish days though.

What about that suspension bridge they claim that can hold 7, 747's weight on it?

Remember, your American dollars go a LONG way in Canada, don't worry about prices too much.

Metric system, gas sold in liters, highways with low speed limits (80 km/h?!) and so on...
