Total bail is $1,500,000.

From the beginning around two years ago this whole story IMO begged the question:

Have we heard the whole story about this? Were these three journalists really just hiking near the I/I border? Did they really have no agenda? Did they possibly have some ties to US intelligence agencies? I have read many stories in the mainstream press, seen TV stories, and there has been not a hint concerning such thoughts.

One wonders what three hikers at the border on a trail could possibly discover that would benefit intelligence agencies. I suppose it's entirely possible that they are absolutely innocent of the ostensible charges. I say ostensible because to my knowledge, there have been no revelations concerning the Iranian charges against them. Is there any more information out there? Will there ever be?

I always assumed they're were some libnut types that wanted to cross over and attempt at some grass-roots human rights movement.

Presumably our assets over there have far better/deeper cover.

that's funny because i thought the same thing.

Huh? That's pretty far fetched. These people weren't naive. They had no intention of motivating any Iranians to do anything. AFAIK they had no contact with any Iranians. Is there any evidence that they were pamphleteering or anything of the sort?

same thing as those ones that went to best korea and got kidnapped.

had to call bill clinton to suck kim jung il's penis to let them go.

If they aren't spies they were very naive indeed for going on a damn nature hike in one of the sh*test parts of the world. Well, they won't be doing that again, will they?

Now we can wait until the next asshole is arrested by Pyongyang or Somalis or whomever for going on a camping trip within a stone's throw of their border and causing another international incident.

Those of us who've grown up in the West, most of us know a lot of other countries have barely functioning justice systems but from time to time you get a hippy-type who's going treking in parts of the world they really should know better than to trek into and they get a first hand lesson on the differences between getting arrested in France and getting arrested somewhere you really, really don't want to get arrested in.
