All this talk about thermal grease....

Makes me wonder. Where does it go? On a new TB, do you grease up the whole bottom of your HS, or just put it on the core of the processor?

thanks, my HS directions said using too much could reduce effectiveness....can't have that now could we?

Just apply a thin layer to the core. If you put it on the heatsink you are wasting it b/c the core only touch a small portion of the heatsink. Any excess grease will be squeezed out when you put the heatsink so, so don't worry about it too much 🙂

Well, then I definately wasted some, but now I know for the future. You sure I'm not losing anything by/if it is too thick between HS and core?

thanks agin

in this case, less is more. You want enough to cover it up and fill in the microscopic air pockets, but not so much that its too thick. But like it was said, because of the pressure, most of the "excess" gets squeezed away....don't worry 'bout it 🙂

Now I remember somewhere in a post by jonny guru that thermal grease was not recomendedby AMD for use on its thunderbirds.

OK maybe it wasn't jonny

Also, don't spread it out on the core, start with it thick in the middle on a drop. Let the presure spread it out. If you spread it out before, air can get trapped in the middle.

it was whatever cheap stuff came with my Alpha7HO

i might open it up and take a look when I mess with some slave-master controls..

thanks all
