All States allow single party audio recording of a conversation except 13

Montana, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Washington.

so if not in the 13, and u are stopped by a cop, secretly record the conversation w/your cell phone for evidence in court, if needed.

Wasn't there an organization that made apps that record and store and even upload this stuff (but it blanks the screen and runs in the background so if cops check the phone they can't tell)?

I wonder how well recording works with phones that have mics for ambient noise cancelling?

Yea I think you can record in person stuff wherever you want. Or else any video evidence would always require someone to look in the camera and consent to being recorded

Also, considering the cabin of a car is similar in nature to the interior of your own home in terms of privacy rights, you would reasonably have the expectation to record for your own purposes without exception within your own car without notification.

You would be surprised at how often dash cams are "down" maybe it's just a coincident but they seem to have a tendency to break when cops are doing shit they shouldn't and people file complaints.

Yes, this is true. Only one party involved in a conversation need to consent to being recorded. This is a big part of how investigative journalists operate. I'd advise everybody do it when interacting with police. It's a powerful leveler when you're dealing with authority. Part of the double edged sword of our surveillance society. They're watching you but now you can watch them.

It's also legal to videotape or photograph any adult, place, or thing on public property. Taping children without parental permission is a bit of a legal gray zone.

many cops don't run dash cams unless they're in a situation where they feel they might capture something useful. heck, we have numerous cruisers that aren't even equipped with cams.

SCOTUS already deemed that laws to prevent individuals from video taping police were unconstitutional. That being the case, simply doing an audio recording should be legal too.
