Shoot!!!! I only have ~100 PM's left! Damnit! I had some interesting conversations with some ex members... now It's gone. 🙁

For those of you who lost important pms, Zuni has said to not rely on the forums for storage. If it's really important, back it up elsewhere.

That way you won't lost anything of importance again.

<< >>>Now if only there was a 'download to folder' button <<<

Word up on that!🙂

I went to forum issues and saw the thread about this idea was locked. Arguments about it being a free service and the rights of the admin to delete whatever and whenever puzzled me. I realize it is a free service, and so is my outlook and email box from my ISP. But email is sacrosant to our lifestyle, and not having the ability to off load it as easily as reading it is also puzzling. Msoft gives us all hotmail and stores it on there servers. But I believe you can store the email from hotmail in your outlook if you wanted. Then it would be on your personal HDD. In an age of rampent technology,I prefer to believe anything is possible if we put are minds to do something. Zuni must be very busy and this task is probably a low priority. Sadly ,again the issue comes back to a paid for forum. If you paid a monthly fee, then the logic is the email would be yours. Well, that does bare study, but I do not think it will fly. Just as the government is raising flags about taxing the internet for your access to data and Email. When that happens, this media will close down for good. And besides, the genie is out of the bottle, and many users do not have the funds to pay more for use of the net and this forum.

sigh/🙁

Actually tripleshot, the resources and load that would put on the server to allow people to save them would be to big of a hit on these forums. If there where a smaller community then that would be such a bad problem. Has zuni said before time and time again, do not use PMs to store important information. Save it right away if it is important.

OH i still have 2576 even afer the pruning.

I disagree. By allowing a download to folder, I mean something simple, like just having it generate one long HTML page consisting of all the PMs. To navigate the page, at the top of it have a list of all the people in the history, with links to where their PMs start on the page. This generation would cause the same, if not less load, than it would for a person to go to each of the PM pages on their own. It should be obvious why this is so (less overhead in generating one large page than in generating hundreds of small pages, assuming equal content).

The only point of concern that I can think of is that someone with a lot of PMs could keep loading the same page, and that would strain the server. To get around this, and be helpful at the same time, the site could do 2 things:

a) make this unified PM page a button which prompts you to save the PMs to your computer. (helpful because some newbies don't know how to do file->Save As)
b) make the button also clear out all your PMs, since you now have a copy on your computer.

Personally, I'd prefer this option over the current solution. Saving 100 pages, one at a time, isn't my idea of fun.
