Im wondering if anyone can help me out with this one.....

I have been using Optimum Online cable service for over 2 years now and been using a Netgear 614 Cable/Router hub


Everything has been 'split second' quick but just recently I have been having a minor problem that has been becoming quite annoying and have never had encountered before

Now when I click on a website or my home page, It will randomly load a blank page as if it couldnt make the connection on the first click.......a quick refresh of the page or a few refreshes are required to log into the page. It's almost about 75% of the sites now that i visit require a refresh to load because the first click will give me that quick time out page.......what is going on? Is my connection all of a sudden timing out or are there some settings somewhere I can tweak or check????

Im running WINDOWS XP and EXPLORER 6.0 and never had any problems before

have you tried upgrading firmware on the router? How about looking at the logs and see if it shows a small disconnection and then reconnection (shouldn't be a problem unless the cable company is doing it)
 
Are you using static IP( LAN Side ) and DNS settings ? It's possilble that one or more of the DNS entries in the list is no longer valid. E.G., your provider changed it's server(s) to a new IPs. That can cause the timeouts your seeing. Though, at least one of the DNS IP's would have to still be correct, since you eventually resolve the connect. The other possibility I can think of is MTU and RWIN. Have you been trying to "tweak" either of them ?

All fixed....it was a sloppy auto DNS setting in my Netgear router.....I changed the DNS from OOnline's to SpeakEasy DNS and its BACK IN SMOOOOOOTH BUSINESS for me!

change the DNS setting in your router from AUTO to an ACTUAL DNS address......I chose one of SpeakEasy's Phila IP addresses and everything is BUU---YEAAAAH!


If you dont understand how to do this then you obviously havent actually clicked on IDEA's LINK and READ the post because its about 7 pages long and covers in specific detail exactly what to do
 
Yeah you caught me on that one, I didn't actually read all seven pages of that thread.

I am in the process of trying that out. I got another question, those DNS servers are located awfully far away from where I am, will this make my internet run very slowly?

And also, does the DNS issue affect things like battle.net?
