Ok,

To make this short, Does the ATI AIW do everything on the tv that it does on the cpu. I have ati 9800 AIW, but has been assigned to my sons rig after my 6800gt purchase.

The only reason I mention this, is ,when I tried to pump the video signal to the TV(from 9800 AIW) it was aweful. Now, it was pumped to a big screen non hdtv, non lctv, nothin fancy, just a big ol cheapo toshiba 55". So, does the fact that I have a big screen projection make the image poor?

I am looking at picking up a seperate TV solution from ATI, but if the output is going to be unacceptable on a TV, I wont bother. I rally want to make a Tivo type deal for my home . I have all the extra parts, except the tuner card.

Do I need a high quality LCD type tv to make the output from the ATI cards lookm like im watching tv?

Please do help!!

Ok, no one out there uses there ati TV out on the TV? If so how does it look? Like your actually watching tv or, a fuzzy bad signal tv reception?

I pump straight cable to my tv, looks nice, but if I pump it to my ATI AIW 9800 pro, then to the tv, looks like crap, Is this the norm?

Also, when I pump my Asus G4 Ti 4400 to the tv Looks like poop, same with my BFG 6800 GT OC, again with the poop. Is this the norm, gosh I have a hard time beleiving this, unless of course you need a high quality tv to pump these signals to.

Well, Id expect the tv to look as good as tv would normally on the tv. Not even close, with dvd, same deal.

I sit here every night and play, horse around n my computer, and have the tv next to me. I look at the tv from time to time, looks good, normal, like a tv should. I look at the monitor, same deal.

Now if I pump the signal from CPU to TV, does not look good, not accpetable for using as a home box, where I can put in my living room, store and watch movies, pictures occasionly surf thenet from a distance.

I get the distinct feeling that TV out on these cards is nothing more than a pipe dream, that the main purpose is for viewing tv on your computer ( no offense--but why??)

Again, I must stree, I dont have any real nice tvs, the best picture would be on my Sanyo 36" Walmart special, but to me, looks good enough and would be happy with it if, I could view things from a cpu pumped in this quality

thanks

Unfortunately, the 480i output can only look so good even using s-video output. I used to use my AIW s-video output to my crappy 32" Sanyo and the picture was definately acceptable, but softer than direct from the wall to the TV. Cables and signal quality are very important, but considering the number of connections between the wall and the analog display using your PC vs just plugging directly into your analog set, the best you could ever expect would be "close" to as good.

The YPbPr output to my Digital widescreen using my MCE rig driven by the same AIW 9700pro card, looks very good however. Its actually preferable because of MCE's superior GUI to the cable co's, so its possible to have a decent output with the right combination of equipment.
