All In Wonder X1900 lowest price?

Wish they didn't keep using the Theater 200 video decoder but use the Theater 550 instead.

The thing is that it makes absolutley no sence to use it with these cards. The 550 theatre chip is designed for stand alone tuners because it has a lot of post processing built in, which is not required with the X1x00 series because it has those built in to the chips. the 200 chip is actually a faster chip for changing from channel to channel.
 
I stand corrected.

I thought the 550 is better than the 200 and since the 550 is not in AIW X1900 then it means it's doesn't perform as well as a standalone tuner.

I did not know it was built into the chips.

I thought it was completely left out.

Now I don't feel slightly cheated when I buy this card.

The AIW is just an underclocked XT so maybe it'll reach XT speeds :thumbsup:

And also, you aren't losing anything going with the Theater 200 that is on these chips. Remember that x1000 series have AVIVO which may deliver the best consumer level video quality on the market right now, and (when drivers are released) will allow hardware accelerated encoding.

 
Yeah, but you're definitely going to need something better than the terrible single-slot stock cooler it comes with to reach much of anything. Maybe an Arctic Cooling Accelero when it comes out, eh?

I got an email from them and the next batch is expected Feb 17th. Bummer.




 
I can't understand the logic behind the All In Wonder at all. Why not add a sound card too? And a SATA controller? They have about as much in common with a GPU as a TV Tuner/capture board. About the only argument is saving a slot, I suppose.

My advice: get the graphics card you want, and then go get a 550 Pro-based tuner card.

The logic is simple. Why pay more for two cards (a video card and a tuner card) when you can get it all-in-one'der. 🙂 I know....you're probably thinking about the tv/vcr combo that was a disaster....can't upgrade seperate components.

Anyway...my new computer has the ASUS P5WD2-E motherboard with kick-a*s integrated sound going thru my old Cambridge Soundworks desktop theater 5.1 speakers via SPDIF coax connection so I will not be getting a sound card either.

Oh...I think I will patiently wait til Feb for a good deal on the AIW X1900 but I will definitely not wait til March.

That didn't occur to me... but it's a good example 🙂.

The upgrade question is worth considering, since gpus seem to advance much more rapidly than tuners.
