All in one Mobo? Which one?

Some of you may have seen my problems with my computer. It would boot then continually restart at POST screen (where it shows CPU and ram). At first I switched out the power supply which didn't fix the problem. Then I got a new video card (went from geforce 3 to geforce4 4200) and now the computer doesn't even turn on! By the way it boots to windows with a radeon 8500 and radeon 7000.

So I'm assuming its my motherboard AGP slot that is busted, and need to buy a new mobo. I'm looking for a mobo that has a built in video because I no longer play any intensive games and I'm going to sell the other two video cards.

What mobo should I get for a AMD 1.33 Tbird and 2x256 pc2100 crucial ram?

BTW: I have the same board that DAPUNISHER linked to. Very good board, and an excellent price. If you use onboard video, you should be sure to use dual-channel ram though since it may give you bad video quality with only one ram dimm. I had that problem with mine, and other nForce2 boards.

Can it overclock? A friend of mine bought the all-in-one derivative of the ASUS A7N8X board and was terribly disappointed to discover that he could not overclock. He couldn't even raise the FSB. No memory timings even.

I chose the ABIT because it DOES overclock, and I'm certain it does it just as well as the NF7-S which is incredible in this regard.

The M7NCG 400 has
all the overclocking settings he'll need The 1.2-1.4 t-birds are multi unlocked too, so he can lower the multi and pump it up to 400DC-DDR synch mode and have a nice little setup *will need new ram* 🙂 It is also 400FSB certified where as the Abit isn't. Although running that speed shouldn't be an issue as long as vdd voltage adjustment is available.

However, you will have a hard time convincing me it's the best nF2 IGP board seein as my SL-75MRN-L ran a Barton 2500+ week 11 '03@2.43ghz 422DC-DDR synch mode rock solid 😉 I also scored 6001 3Dmock2k1 with it 3200+speed IGP core clock@265mhz stock cooling. If you look at the top scores for nF2 in Futuremock 2k1 you will see my man triple j from Team nForcersHq.com owns it with his Epox 8RGA+ so I would say there are several other nF2 IGP boards that can hang neck and neck with the Abit in overclocking 😀

BTW, he wrote a good guide for juicing the IGP here Hope this helps someone

OK fine that's a nice motherboard. The ABIT is nice as well though. Beer for you, even though your comments were "punishing". I still think Abit is a better brand than Biostar any day of the week though. More beer .

 is good Ja! I'm about half in the bag now but via Vodka not the suds 😱 BTW, it's all good my fellow Primate 😎 Many board makers are turning out great products now, I mean could you imagine recommending Biostar or DFI over Abit 2yrs ago? <Brando> the Horror......the Horror....

LOL

Lay off the vodka, "brudda".

I only gave you beer because of that old addage:

"Liquor before beer and you're in the clear."

Oh yeah, do you know how a real man handles his liquor?

-By the horns.

Brings new life to the Dodge ads, now doesn't it? 😀

I'm drinking Labatt Extra Dry ATM and it's nice and smooth. It's one of the benefits of living in the Great White North.

In any event we have hijacked this thread and made it an Off Topic one. Oh well. 🙂

now to go really off-topic, since you're in canada - have you tried lakeport honey yet? It's a thoroughly good beer, for $26 a case! (that's cheap in canada)

DFI KM400-MLV. Linkage .
. It's got just about everything but the kitchen sink! If newegg is OOS, you can also get at monarchcomputer.com .

I've used that Biostar board in a few systems and it's a really good board. It's what I currently recommend for any budget system.

The Biostar is $65, the ABIT NF7-M is $95.

The Biostar can run DDR400, even though the newegg page doesn't mention it.

I certainly don't see the ABIT board being worth $30 more. There is no difference I can see between the boards except that the Biostar is smaller and has 3 PCI slots. They both have the same chipset, same onboard audio, same LAN, etc. You'd have to really want those extra 2 PCI slots.

He didn't say he gave up games altogether. The nForce2 IGP really has the only integrated graphics that are usable at all in games.

You also have to consider that all integrated graphics usually have pretty poor image quality once you get over 1024x768.

Tom's had a comparison of integrated graphics:
http://www6.tomshardware.com/graphic/20030903/index.html

It doesn't mention S3, but I've personally seen that S3 integrated graphics can have major driver problems, especially in OpenGL, and is even slower than Extreme Graphics 2.

Tom's article is way outdated and doesn't even mention any of the Via chipsets. Besides, KM400 mobos have 4x/8x AGP slots if the integrated video doesn't cut it. I'm not saying that Via's integrated graphics are more than adequate, but there are other compensations - like the higher stability of Via's Hyperion chipset drivers, SATA hard drive support, etc...
..bh.

Well, I've got a VIA KT333 (or something like that) with the integraded S3 Savage Pro+ that's useless for 3D, even with the newest drivers. It can barely run the 3D ball OpenGL screensaver (about as fast as a 1994 Matrox MGA Millennium). Maybe the newer ones have entirely different graphics.

YES! Sure can! I'm running a Mobile Barton 2500+ in mine at 12.5x and 200mhz fsb stable. 1.75v. That's 2.5ghz. Now that it's summer, I dropped it back to 2.4ghz for temp reasons.

The multiplier maxes out at 12.5, so even though my cpu may go higher, I'm stuck. I also have not been able to get it to OC with the fsb set at anything above 205fsb. Even with lower multiplier settings...
