I think the article explained the backlash:
...a country where sex and public displays of affection are largely taboo.

Unreasonable? To many, yeah, but it is what it is. Sounds like it may be changing, slowly.

Or maybe they just didn't like Pretty Woman. ;)

Look at the picture. He didn't JUST kiss her. If a stranger did that to me, I'd be somewhat unhappy, though I wouldn't burn him in effigy.

while he may have just been "kissing" her, he should no better. India is still deeply embraced in their culture. even today the caste system exist. so he should know better then to do such a thing.

It's the lameass Shiv Sena. They are like the Hindu equivalent of the Taliban that no one gives a sh!t about. They need 'something' to stay in the news.

These people don't have anything better to do?
Some of us post in ATOT ;)

Agree, he should have just never gone there to begin with.

Strange country.
Indeed.
Millions starve, but they dont eat the cows that roam the country derailing trains.
 x 100

Eating beef is as blasphemous there as eating your mother is here. Where's the humor?

The important part is that she was fine with it, and still is. It's other people that decided to get outraged, and it appears they are almost as angry with her as with him.

If I recall her films draw a stark line compared with classic Hollywood fare. Very little skin, any romance is often only alluded too. There could be more provocative stuff. I am not a Ballywood film buff.

I guess I can see all of the lonely single males in India getting a little upset that the objecto of thier infatuation had herself ravaged by Mr Greere.

Isn't that kind of comical considering the population and population density over there?

Your mother doesn't derail trains. . .or does she?

JS80, you're constantly make idiotic statements like this.
Why do you think he's a "commie"?
perhaps you're unclear about the definition of communist?

Or how Gere working for the freedom of Tibet from communist China would make him definitely not a "commie"?
