I had a grey cat named Smokey when I first got married to my wife. She lived to be 18 years old and just went to sleep one day and didn't wake up, I actually saw her take her last breath 🙁. She was the last of the 3 cats my wife and I came into our marriage with and was pretty special to both of us. One of her favorite toys to play with when she was young was the little pull tabs and rings that came off of gallon milk jug tops. I will never forget going down into the basement of the townhouse I was living in before we got married and finding a ton of these things that she had played with and managed to lose by batting them under the door. The basement was unfinished and used by my roommate and I to store junk so we hardly ever went down there and there had to be 50-100 of these things scattered in front of the door. Just typing this up really brings back a lot of memories.

I had a dream last night about some of our old gray cats. 🙁

All of our cats have idiosyncrasies. One only drinking running water, is a vegetarian (who also loves rose petals), and flips out over catnip. One is the biggest, most muscular cat you'll ever see, yet he's afraid of everything, he can't purr, and licks you when he's happy. Another is a total biznatch to all other cats in existence for going in her territory (which is wherever she is at the time; only the first cat mentioned carries any weight with her and they still fight sometimes) yet is one of the most affectionate cats at times. And the newest addition was a kitten a few days old my younger sister found in the parking lot. I've only been home a few times since they've had him but he's awesome. Has no regard for his own body and runs/jumps into shit without even getting fazed.

I miss living with cats.

I recently bought really nice new bedding, silky sheets, fluffy comforter, now when I get into bed, she'll come literally running
into the bedroom, leap onto the bed and dive under the covers and go to sleep.

Ours sleeps down near our feet and she doesn't move during the night for anyone. Every once in a while she'll come up and sleep nestled up next to me but I like to roll a couple times when I sleep so she generally sleeps where she won't be disturbed.

I found orange tabbys to be the most neurotic of the cats I have owned. They get some profound idea into their heads one day, like "HEY, why not piss and crap in the middle of the floor!" even when the litter box is completely clean. Then they refuse to be retrained to properly use it. I had 2 orange tabby males from the same litter pull this stunt, until I finally ridded myself of them. The other cat in the same litter that was not orange was normal and able to be easily adopted out.

Or they become incredibly neurotic like a light orange tabby cat I have now that was dumped on me when a friend was kicked out of her house who constantly scratches himself to the point I have to apply medicine to him several times a day. I have been applying an antifungal spray called Fungisan to his face and neck area, which he absolutly hates. And no, he does not have fleas or any other obvious reason for doing this such as ringworm. He is just bored, fat, and likes to groom and scratch himself a lot. I have to trim his claws so he lessens the amount he injures himself.

Such is the life for an orange cat.

Orange cats are crazy. Both of mine have been great as far as the litter box, but one had the habit of climbing your legs (less than fun if one was wearing shorts) and the current one does not care about anyone but me and will actively flee from pretty much anyone making any noise. The only exception is if I'm on the phone, in which case he will not leave me alone.

What slick says about orange cats is the truth. My sister has had two of them Ivan "the Terrible" and Ozmosis Jones. Both were crazier then a bedbug. Ivan knocked things off shelves. He would stare you right in the eye and then shove something off the shelf and sit in it's spot. Oz was nuerotic and had imaginary allergies as well as a nervous tic. Sadly both of them died, Ivan from that horrible disease that fills the chest with liquid and we think Oz got hit by a car. RIP guys, we still love you both.

My cat Chyna is weird, too. She's a calico tonkinese. She does things like drinks with her paw from the far corner of the water bowl, and she loves to sit on the bathroom furniture. She's also a chatty cathy who'll talk to anybody for hours except my mom. Won't make a single noise to her. Also loves to hear me sing. I already know I'm going to be absolutely devastated when I lose my baby.

I've got a gray cat as well. He'll only drink water coming out of the faucet. When we turn the faucet on he'll go into the sink and start pawing at the water, splashing it everywhere. Sometimes he sticks his paws under the water and wets them then proceeds to lick them. Everytime we give him a bowl of water he'll paw at it until there's a good amount on whatever surface he's on then he'll drink a little and then dip his paws in it.

He also has a thing for boxes he can barely fit in.

His name is cujo:

Just chillin.

Really? I've got several cats, and the gray one absolutely loves water. We have a spray bottle and all the other cats run from it except for the gray cat who comes up close, meows, wants to be sprayed with water.

Also loves bottled water, goes running to the water cooler anytime someone gets a glass.

Not a surprise where the cat is in this picture:

Our cat Gizmo loves water. In our old apartment, he would run into the bathroom if someone was taking a shower and lap up the dripping water from the faucet. He is also a huge fan of the Drinkwell fountain and gets very upset when I take it away to clean it.

Here is the aftermath of a time when he slipped while sitting on the edge of the bathtub

That reminds me of the time our kitten fell in the sump pump. I followed a trail of water in the basement, he was drenched 🙂

Yes. IIRC, Russian Blues, their relative breeds and mixes all have affinities for water. Mine certainly does (running water). Mine also fetches like a dog.

He loves us, but he's not affectionate until he reaches a breaking point and goes on a "rub-me" binge. Otherwise he sits and stares and me or my wife (usually hoping we throw a twist-tie for him to chase).

He will also lay flat on his back, legs spread, for all the world to see his jewels (or rather where they used to be).

Milo

You just described my cat :Q I've never seen a cat fetch like a dog....plus we've got twist-ties all over the house for the cat to play with, but she has her favorite.

Indeed. At times Milo just goes bat-shit crazy and races around the house for no reason....which always devolves into the other cats chasing him.

His nicknames are:
Czar Milosevich
Grey Devil
Dumbass

About 10-11pm our cat will run around like she's insane.

Her names:
Sphinxter (often sits on the floor looking like a Sphinx)
Mia (when we take her to the Vet)
Bitch (probably used most often)

I really like our cat (just had her for 4 months or so now) but I wish she was more snugly. If my wife and I are sitting on the couch she'll be across the room staring us down. We can pick her up and make her sit next to us and pet her but she'll still run away. At night she sometimes jumps up on the bed but always lays next to our feet, never anywhere else.

She's also very noisy. In the morning when I wake up and go to the bathroom she'll starting meowing (she's not in heat, she's de-vagina-ized), especially if I make eye contact with her.

the Grey cat I had to put to sleep after 15 years was a character, truely one of a kind...can't say he was a big fan of running water but I do know he liked to drink from the toilet...😀

I have a Gray cat that's stark raving mad. It bites, it hates other cats and pounds the crap out every one around here (not many come around anymore), it won't eat unless you pet it first, and the damn thing eats a whole cube of butter every chance it gets to steal one.

Ok, speaking of water, while mines not grey, he has learned how to turn the water on in the shower. I've had to remove the handle so I don't get any huge water bills.

He also playes fetch better than any dog. Likes to go into the shower after I'm out, and in the laundry tub while the washer is draining into it.

My grey cat Lil' Pio is a Russian Blue mixed w/ I dunno..she was a stray that we found
loooves feathers. we put it up out of reach and she stares at it and gets all frustrated. She makes a lot of noise for a cat...make curious "meow?" noises all the time when investigating things.
When doesn't want wet food anymore she'll paw the plate away and it gets all over the place.

Lil' Pio!
