my problem is with the Asus A7V8X deluxe v2.0. I think the problem is my bios, i noticed that my Xp 2000+ was only showing up as athlon 1240 Mhz. I tried to fix it in teh bios and then the whole system won't post anymore. I cleared CMOS and its back and running but i cannot make any changed to the bios without it going dead on me. every time i make any changed in teh bios i have to clear cmos in order to get the system to post. i have a gut feeling that i somehow screwed up my bios. I think i am going to have to flash my bios but i don't have a floppy drive. . . my old floppy drive and i never bothered replacing it cuz i figured i won't be needing it. What do i do now?

If the system runs reliably at its present speed, install Asus Update from your mobo CD and you'll be able to flash it in Windows without needing a floppy drive. 😀 As for the core problem, it sounds like you need to set the CPU's front-side bus, or "external frequency," to 133MHz but also make sure that the PCI bus is at 33MHz and the memory bus is at 133MHz. These secondary frequencies are adjusted by means of ratios, or "dividers." You would want a 1:1 ratio between CPU and memory (both 133MHz) and a 1:4 ratio between the PCI and CPU speeds (133/4 = 33).

Good luck! 🙂

press INSERT as you bootup... this works on all asus mobos and other mobo and i know it will work on the a7v8x b/c thats what im house on.

/edit: oh i thought you had a blank screen ;-(

it sounds to me like your memory is crap. It will boot at a low FSB(100), but not at 133 or higher.
