All great empires fall...

All empires in history have fallen, including the great roman empire that lasted for over a thousand years. I have always found this topic very intriguing considering the US has only been in exsitance since 1776. I wouldnt exactly call the US an empire, but when will the US's great world power end? IMO it is not if, it is when? How and when do you think? obivoulsy a lot of detail and probably nothing we can imagine now will probably be the reason, but what do you guys think?

maybe a thousand years from now (if the world is still around or w/e you wanna say) children will be studying how 9/11 was the beggining of a very slow end of the US, sorta like the barbarians and the roman empire, history i believe always repeats itself, as i also believe does time in the geometric sence of the word....

I just get a good kick out of discussing things like this...

My buddy was telling me that he thinks it's the end of the world. The problem is we've been through a lot worse. I bet if we lived during WW1 and especially WW2 we would have thought the world was going to fall apart. But it didn't...

How about the Great Depression? Civil War? Vietnam? America has faced great challanges in it's short life and 9/11 is another obstacle that I think America will be able to overcome.

We're well over 400 years, so any day now. Besides, don't all the great empires fall during the reign of puppet kings and rulers?

Do you live in the UK?

when? how about now, look at the recent threads posted in ATOT..."Woman decapitates daughters..." or "disabled girl forced into oral..." American society is pretty fvcked up right now and getting worse. From a financial standpoint, the American markets have been dropping correct? I'd have to say that our beloved "empire" is crumbling, albeit slowly, perhaps we're just gaining momentum. But this is just my point of view.

I'm a govt employee and I still get paid. So...... Nope.

As far as most people seeing it: I think the real problem is everybody sees it, but few want to ackowledge it consiously.
The power of denial is wonderful. It absolves responsibility and allows us to get on.

I don't think that the US will 'fall' or face complete disaster any time soon, but its power will defnitely decline and we probably won't see another 'empire' with as much unrivaled power any time soon.

Economically it is going to be increasingly apparent that we will not be moving back "up". Current youth already face a vastly different (and less rosy) future than their parents, and our children and grandchildren will live in a very different world.

and of course you have the ever changing world views, no matter how a constitutuion is designed to last, eventually it will evolve and be replaced to fit the ever changing society in this new world that is getting ever so different from the 1800's

which leads me to another topic....

i remember hearing talk about writing a new constitution for the US a couple of yrs ago??
