I'm running a 2.53 Intel CPU with a GeForce 4 4600, XP Home, Direct X 9.0b, 1 gig of RAM DDR 400, a 80 gig hard drive with 8 meg of cache and a SB Audigy Gamer 5.1 . I'll load Never Winter Nights for example play for 30 minutes and then get nwn.exe has caused an error in something. I'll run Norton System works and find 2 bad registry entrees where there were none before. It doesn?t matter the game. I have replaced the RAM, replaced the motherboard because of different issues and just formatted and reinstalled. THE CPU runs at 55 to 57 degrees at 100% usage. I?m thinking video card may be getting to hot, ideas?

Thank You!

try leaving the case open and pointing a fan at it. if it works, it is definitely a heat issue then.

I tried that, it still crashed. I watched the heat on the CPU and saw no difference in temp.

Make sure you have latest BIOS and chipset drivers for your system and don't overclock anything.

It could be numerous reasons for doing that.Any o/c's?
Is this a new built or problems just appeared now? I had similar problems in the past with my built concerning ram. Sometimes mobos are way too picky with some brands.

I'm running an MSI 648F Neo 800 fsb. I'm not overclocking anything. I have not checked for a new update on the bios yet, I'm up to date on video and sound.

It has been getting worse over that last month. It is to the point now where I can watch the clock and wait for it to crash.

I can't speak with certainty but it is very possible that you have memory problems.
MSI is PICKY with memory. I use an MSI neo2 865pe and in the beginning my 3d applications crashed with my first brand. I changed to kingston ddr400 value ram and never seen other problems.
But look for a bios update at msi site, they have updates that fixed similar issues.
And if you don't want to take any risks with it, change your ram if you can with a good brand(corsair, buffalo, kingston etc)

I have checked the MSI site and I have the most up to date bios. There are a couple of fixes for CPU coding and boot from LAN issues but nothing about memory. That was problem with my last mother board. The memory controller had issues. I replaced the ram that came with the system and added another 512. To different brands so this is something I'll check out.

Thanks!

OOO!!

I think I know!!

infinite loop propblem. effects geforce cards. nvidia never did anything about it.

Happened to me too. I got real sad. Formatted 3 times in one night, tried different drivers, still got sad.

More info on the problem here:

Anywho, to fix it I used these drivers:

http://www.omegacorner.com/

Get rid of your current nvidia drivers, install his, and see what happens. Worked for me.. hope it works for you.

also check your sound card. i had a similiar problem, games would lock up after 30 mins of play or so...it really killed a LAN party weekend for me. I had a GeForce4 4600 and a SB Audigy, too. I bought new RAM, added case fans, a bigger processor fan, etc. I ended up getting a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz and the problem went away. Who knows why, but I don't think I'll be getting another SB sound card for awhile now.

Its new Antec True power 450.

I had a feeling in the back of head it might be sound. I think it may have been an issue with the mobo sound being enabled for some reason. I shut it off and played NWN for over an hour with no crash. We'll see.

Thanks
