All extra virgin olive oil = first cold press?

most extra virgin olive oil bottles i see says "First cold press."

But what if the bottle doesnt say that, but is labeled Extra Virgin olive oil?

Is "First Cold press" implied in extra virgin olive oil?

I bought some extra virgin olive oil last week... it isn't extra virgin anymore :(

As it has been explained to me (by some crazy olive oil peddling woman in Tuscany), the different grades of olive oil come from three presses. Extra virgin is the first, by definition, then virgin for second and just olive oil for the third. Thus, I would think it's implied.

If it isn't "first cold pressed" it is not "extra virgin". Even then it may not be extra virgin as "extra virgin" is an acidity measurement.

good read, not too long. the IOOC controls 95% of global production, so most anything that says "extra virgin" is from the first press, whether its specifically stated or not

the difference between extra virgin and virgin is the acidity content, both are from the first press though.

1st cold pressing = either extra virgin or virgin depending on acidity. If it says Extra Virgin on the bottle it's definitely the 1st pressing and the right acidity measurement. If it's the first pressing and the acidity is too high it's labeled as "virgin". You can have 1st pressing that's not labeled extra virgin, but you can't have "extra virgin" without it being the 1st pressing.
 

From what I understand the first cold press with less than 1% acidity is considered extra virgin.
