I been doing this for months now, and its a pretty good deal even for New Releases, i know its just 1-day for a $1.00, but if you are on vacation, or its the weekend, 1-day is sufficient to rent/watch 'em. This is what i usually do on a typical weekend:

I head to the Wherehouse Music/Video store when they open at 10am on Saturdays.. i pick up 2-3 DVD's, mostly new releases.. pay $3.25 with tax
and they are due at 10pm sunday night.. thats 36hrs that is considered a 1-day rental.. why would you want to rent them for 5days like Blockbuster / Hollywood / or a local "Mom&Pop's" Video Store ?

In the L.A area, all Wherehouse locations have this deal for a bone.. YMMV

DAVID .. how did you like Netflix? and in reality, how many actual DVD's did you rent a month since you have to ship back and forth ?
I always knew if would be a hassle just for the shipping back everytime you are done with those Netflix DVD's..

Uh, more hassle than driving to the the store to return them, and having to drive back within a specific amount of time?

Some Tower Records locations do the same thing, except I think you have rent Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday to get new releases for $1/day. Just to let people know. Unforetunately, I don't have either Wherehouse or Tower where I live now.

Yep, confirmed for the New Orleans area. I noticed this when I was shopping in there around Christmas. Great deal!

Cool deal!
For those of you who have Longs Drugs in your area(CA,OR,WA,HI...).
They have DVD/VHS rentals for $0.99/day. This includes new releases.
Limited copies.....so rent early.

Just went to my local wherehouse. They had a great selection. Thanks for the deal. I'm sure though when more people find out about this deal, the selection will slowly get worse.

Yeah, this deal is available at my local Wherehouse Music store... it's been going on for a few months now..
Unfortunately I buy DVDs... but sometimes I'll rent one before buying (which is rarely).. :D

Some local Hollywood video stores have an awesome $.99 cents for 6 days deal, including all new releases! That's right, 6 days for ALL vhs/dvds. I've been taking advantage of this deal for over 6 months now. And I ripped a lot of dvds, hehe.. This store must have been in a real bad financial mix.. And it was... it closed down recently. sniff sniff that was the best deal on renting dvds I ever had.

Netflix was fine. It only took a couple of days to get a movie after I sent the old one in. I only live about 50 miles from HQ. The problem is it's only worth it if you watch about 15 or so movies a month. That's a lot. I'm hardpressed to watch 4. At that rate, Netflix costs about $3-$4 a movie. Might as well go to BlockBuster. Just go to the wherehouse and pay a buck.

To make this even hotter, if you have a AAA card, just show it to them and you can rent two and get one free from Wherehouse. I do this all the time at the Long Beach store and the Rowland Heights one. Although most of the time I end up only able to watch like 1 or 2 of them. Also it sucks that you have to return them by like 9pm the next day, I'm used to places that are open till at least midnight. :D
