I think it depends on the college and the class, I have had some classes where a D was passing and others where it was failing, example. My anthropology 210 class a D was passing, Writing 121 a D failed you.

A C is required for major courses. Gen Eds are D for passing.

You know the title of the thread, it makes sense that you got a D.

I will, or hope so...

You say that now, but if you let a entire semester go by without one class higher than a D, I doubt your determination

I got one "D" at GA Tech. Chem 1102 my second semester. I had a 102 fever and puked my way through the final exam...not to mention the night prior due to stomach virus. But since I passed with a "D" I just took it.

It did ruin my GPA though, and I lost the Hope Scholarship. Took me another year to regain it and three more years to get a 3.3 and graduate with honors.

Moral of the story: have fun digging out of this hole!

Don't hope.

Set some goals for the semester, figure out what steps you need to take to get there (e.g. do the homework when assigned, not the hour before), and make f*cking sure you execute on your plans.

For most schools it depends on whether its a core major class or not. Usually D's dont' fly for core classes. Get your $hit together OP. You will regret it later.

that sucks tho i remember i got all As my first semesters and now with my harder classes that's paying off with my GPA barely going down with Cs. :(

Good job, that'll look great come time to interview for jobs and internships. How you gonna tell a potential employer that you won't have the same lazy attitude at work that you had in school?

Most universities will accept Ds on anything outside the major/minor. There are typically two exceptions. One is freshmen english classes, every school will require a C for passing. The second exception is you have to have a C if the class is a prereq for another course.

Uh, usually D's usually do count for core courses. However they will NEVER count for major/minor courses. The exception is English. At the majority of univerversities count D's for History, Govt, Social Science, Humanities, and Art.

Actually, the apostrophe isn't necessary or considered good grammar.

May? It's his first semester, he will be placed on academic probation, and will likely have to take study skill and time management courses. Its likley if he doesnt bring it up to a 2.5 by the end of Spring he'll probably be suspended for a semester. Well atleast that is how it works at most schools.
