All craft beer bars should have Bud Light on the menu.

That may have been true ten, fifteen, twenty years ago, but today more and more of those Bud drinkers are trying craft beers and liking them.

I live in a craft beer mecca and I'm seeing exactly the opposite effect. Many people here are tired of faux-English style ales, over-the-top fruit and spice flavored beers, sour beers, and all the rest. And they're drinking good, old-fashioned watery American lagers once again in increasing numbers.

You live in Colorado where everyone is pretending they are that wealthy couple heading up to Telluride or Beaver Creek in Vail.

Shit, I have to usually get a car wash for my rental when up there because my jobs are down the mountains.

I don't know who you know that drinks beer, but craft beers aren't taking over market share so you rant is wrong.

Hardly. Maybe it looks like that to a hayseed tourist.

Apparently English isn't your first language. WTF does "down the mountains" mean? And what in the hell does having your car washed have to do with beer?

Wow. You know absolutely nothing about the American beer market if you actually think that.

So, in honor of beer snobs everywhere not knowing a fucking thing about Jazz, I bought a "Miles Davis' Bitches Brew" pint this afternoon. First beer I've actually had in months (been drinking nothing but that champagne) and it was pretty good.

So, take a chance and buy based on name alone. It works out.

People aren't shifting back and forth between Bud Light and craft beers. They're different markets. Craft beers are battling it out with good imports.

I'd vehemently argue that the largest selling imports compete with domestics, not craft beers. The likes of Heineken, Corona, Stella Artois, Labatts, are all lighter bodied lagers. A Heineken drinker today is much more likely to have been a Bud Light drinker a year ago than he was to have been a lover of IPAs and Belgian-style Lambics.

Domestic sales are down: 1.3% in volume, up 0.8% in dollar sales. (Both Bud and Bud Light sales were downin 2013.)

TopImportedBeerChart_slide.jpg

Import sales are up: 4.5% in volume, 6% in dollar sales.

Craft sales are up: 16.6% by volume, 19.4% in dollar sales.

The water quality of Lake Eire and the Cuyahoga is nothing to brag about. Quite flammable, in fact.

😕 /facepalm
