Yes I know. Crazy Ebayers bought them all up. I'm going over to Ebay now and check out all the new Conroe listings. Not saying this is definatley what happened, but there is a damn good possibility.

EDIT: Nah, only one listed there. E6600 for minimum bid of 399.00. Maybe by tomorrow.

Anyone even gotten a confirmation from ZZF? I'm willing to bet they are listed there more for convenience and maybe they will allow people to buy them at midnight or something?

Wishful thinking maybe...

FYI:

ZZF has a nasty habit of listing product they do not have yet. At least they are forthright enough to show the product as out of stock, but they will list the product before they even get their first shipment in, which is *slightly* shady.

NewEgg will do shady things like gouge, but they never list product they never received a first shipment on.

The prices you are thinking of are NOT MSRP. That's a huge misconception by people. The prices you see on Intel's site (and quoted elsewhere) are for minimum 1000 unit orders of OEM tray processors, directly from Intel.

Just for reference, my wholesale COST on these chips is more than what people say the MSRP should be.

Have a month until I can build a system. Should I pull the trigger now since prices at ZZF are very reasonable or will prices on the conroe cpus drop a bit in a month?

DROP? Lol! Are you joking (Well, maybe you are. I'm not sure)? The prices will probably go up due to high demand. Kudos to you if you manage to get one!

WRONG! They are msrp. Many many news site listed those prices at msrp. Believe it nor not, Intel does not publish how much their charge their retailers for chips, why would they? They charge different retailers different prices.... There are also trade discounts, consignment, etc. Theres a lot more too it than just buying a 10000.

If your wholesale costs are more than the "msrp", you're getting screwed. You're probably ordering from some distrubutor who is ripping you off.

Ok, questions:

The Conroes are stated as having a 1066MHz FSB. Is this just on a quad bus system, such as previously (266.6 x 4 = 1066Mhz) ??

Therefore, would DDR2, 533Mhz be the appropriate memory for default, stock speeds for Conroe?

Yes. The default FSB is 4 x 266 and the default memory speed is 2 x 266.

266 * 4 = FSB
266 * 2 = Memory

Oh so you mean if I have DDR2 667MHz RAM, it will only really be running at 533MHz speed if I have everything stock clocked?

Yup. At stock speeds, 1:1, the DDR2 667 will only give you the headroom to overclock. It will be running at 533 otherwise. If available, you could also use a 4:5 memory ratio to run the memory higher than the FSB, but I'm not sure what that would do for performance.

wow, and this applies to the P965 boards as well? I'm surprised since they talk about support for DDR 800 and even 1066 or whatever.
