Ok, Just got the OK from a company that me and my buddy were hired on to do audio bits for morning show radio stations across the country.

I'll be recording 2-4 different audio streams (tv stations) live into multitrack software and he'll be doing comedy bits, parody songs, etc. Our computers are supposed to be identical for backup's for each other in case one goes down. So, since his is used for "Studio Recording" they have to be pretty quiet and since I need to record up to 12hours of tv (4 stations-3hrs each) I'll need the space for it. (how much space will that take anyway at cd quality?)

This was the original list I'd sent them but I'm wondering what to change if anything.

Thermaltake Black Xaser III Skull Series Mid-Tower Case with 420W $135.00
Gigabyte GA-8KNXP $169.99
Intel Pentium 4/ 2.8C -Retail $179.00
Mushkin 184 Pin 1GB(512MBx2) DDR PC-3200 "222 Special" $339.00
2 - Hitachi 160GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive $208.00
Lite-On Black 8X DVD+/-RW Drive, Model SOHW-812S, Retail $90.00
(or possible the NEC ND-2500A for $90 instead)
Lite-On 52X32X52X16 Combo Drive, Model SOHC-5232K, Retail $51.50
Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS Platinum $165.00
M-AUDIO PCI Sound Card Model "Delta 1010LT" -Retail $276.00
Creative GigaWorks 5.1 S700 Speakers $320.00
SAPPHIRE ATI RADEON 9800 PRO Video Card, 128MB DDR $209.00
Hauppauge PCI TV Tuner Card, Model "WinTV PVR 250" $136.00
ViewSonic G90FB 19" PerfectFlat CRT Monitor $209.00
Microsoft Black Multimedia Keyboard/Mouse Optical Bundle $36.00
Microsoft Windows XP Professional - Retail $278.00
BELKIN Home Office UPS-Serial 500VA, Model F6C500 $59.99

Total $2861.48 +$70-90 S&H

These are all newegg prices. I want to get everything from one supplier to make it easier on them and I'd like to bring the price down to around the 2500-2600 mark if possible.

Here's my thinking.

Case:fan controllers to quiet it down while recording. Temp display for if I do decide to load it up and push it. comes with 420ps. People gave good reviews of it.

M/B wanted P4c800e-deluxe but didn't like all the talk about voltage probs. Gigabyte was cheaper and had lots of greats reviews. Problem. I doubt I'll need all the bells and whistles. Probably Giga network though.

CPU P4 2.8c $100 less then the 3.2c and I can easily overclock faster if need be. C is faster then E for audio work.

Ram Now this is where I probably went overkill. Advice on cheaper or keep it? No guarantee's I'll O/C but it's a possibility at some point.

H/D's Probably go 1 storage, 1 for O/S. Getting 2 of the same for raid if I need it. Problem. Read lots of accounts on storagereview.com about the "noise" the hitachi's make. Advice on what other ones to get?
Not even sure I need 160's.

DVD/CDRW's DVD+/-RW Drive for back up. Cdrw combo for backing up and reading the dvd's if the dvdrw goes down. Heard the NEC does better writes but I've always liked Liteon.. not sure which to get.

Sound. I have to have quality for him, and 3 inputs (6 stereo) for me. 1010lt gives all that and more.
Sound blaster is for some games, and good sound output to the speakers to leave the 1010's power dedicated to capuring the audio and running back into the board only. (I'll be running 3 DVR's into it then going to 3 seperate tracks on a multitrack, all recording at the same time.

Speakers Gigaworks 5.1 s700 reviews say close to the same bass but better mid&highs then the Pro media 5.1 Ultra's and less noise then the Z-680's.

Video Sapphire 9800pro is overkill but figure it's equal to the system it's going in and only $200. (i will be doing some gaming) and figure a seperate video and capture device makes more sense then a AIW 9800 pro for the same money.

Capture... Just need one for capturing like the DVR's, read good things about the WinTV PVR 250. Cheaper would be better for this also.

Monitor. Kinda at a loss on that one. Figure 19" is easier on my eyes for editing wave's. As for brand. Just based that choice off reviews on newegg.

All right gang, I know that was a long read but I've got to get this list to them within a day or so. Let's have it. Pros/Cons. Any advice will be appreciated. Like everyone. I want the best for the best price.

You might look into multiple sound cards and if they would have driver conflicts etc. I'm sure Creative sells dedicated audio capture cards.

If you don't need picture quality on the TV recording you might be able to get a Leadtek Winfast TV2000 Expert. I'm certain there is a cheaper card that would have stereo recording capabilities.

The Gigaworks speakers are nice, but if you must have really trully great quality sound then you should probably lower some of your stuff and get a decent home theater setup instead. Personally I wouldn't be able to tell the difference with some few exceptions, and since it doesn't sound like you'll be needing DVD-Audio quality sound then I wouldn't worry too much about the speakers. Hmm, maybe take the former advice on this...

You might look into getting larger HDDs. Since its audio and not video you'll be dealing with this probably isn't such a big deal. You might also look into getting a third or fourth one as backups if its pretty important stuff. Maybe a USB enclosure for portability or possibly something like an iPod for transferring? Just a some suggestions.

Look into sound dampening material and get panaflos or vantec stealths.

Last but definitely not least, make sure you have some great audio editing/encoding/playback software, it'll make or break your system here. Look for something that is powerful but easy to use that does what you need it to.

You should go for some Matrox solution for video editing, and probably a MP setup.

Thermaltake Black Xaser III Skull Series Mid-Tower Case with 420W $135.00

Have a look at Antec Sonata or the SLK3700BQE. I'd probably lean towards the BQE, shame it's got a 350w PSU instead of Sonata's 380w though.
Consider Zamlan HSF, or Thermalright with a Panaflo L1A or low rpm NMB fan.
Samsung spinpoint hard disks appear to be silentpcreview's current faves, and recently taking over from the seagates for the quiet PC nuts. RAID!
I didnt think LiteOn optical drives were known for being quiet, I thought it was just the opposite. I'd assume samsung or plextor better, or even that NEC.
