All colors are either purple, green, or blue?

I just bought new ink cartrridges for my HP 952c printer after having very low ink for months. With brand new color and black cartridges in, everything prints nice and solidly, but the colors are wrong. Greens, blues, and purples are right, but all reds, oranges, yellows, etc. get converted to some kind of blue, gray, etc. What could be the problem?

My first reaction was to suggest improper loading; but, as it looks like there is only a single tricolour catridge, that seems unlikely. Was the cartridge new, or refilled, or what? You might also check the bottom of the catridge(where you removed the cover strip before loading) to make sure that the red tank has connected properly. Sounds like red is either not connected correctly, defective, or filled with the wrong colour. Which one is rather hard to say from here.

Yeah, it sounds like the magenta ink isn't printing.

With the HPs the print head is in the cartridge - so it sounds like a faulty cartridge. Replacing it will hopefully solve the problem.

The alternative explanantion is that the connector that goes from the printer to the cartridge is faulty. Take the cartridge out and have a look at the connection - clean it up if necessary.

Is there any chance Staples would believe they're defective and take them back? I've never returned cartridges before.

Check your printer driver and make sure it is all set to defaults. You may have the red slider all the way down. But any number of things could be wrong after having run it so long on low ink. At least it shouldn't be the print heads as each cartridge comes with a new one. However, if you bought one of the Staples brand carts (refurbs), I'd take it back in a heartbeat as those are at least once-used carts in there - just cleaned up and refilled. The HP brand "should" be brand new carts.
. If you are getting green, then you know the blue and yellow are working and if you are getting purple, then you know the red and blue are working. Now it's just a matter of getting them to work at the right time - sounds like a driver (or application settings) issue to me (or you got the wrong cart).

.bh.

I did try to reinstall the drivers, reset all factory defaults, and cleaning the cartridges from the option in the toolbox. Nothing helped.

Today I brought them back to Staples, and surprisingly they exchanged them for me no questions asked. The new ones work fine, thankfully.

Guess I got a defective cartridge!
