S230 is really just point and shoot. The A series cameras have a lot more options, manual settings. The S230 is really a great camera, but you won't take pictures, macro shots, like the one he just posted.

We spent about $430 in total... Camera+extended warranty ($299+$50) + camera bag ($?) + 8 rechargable batteries/charger (~$25) + 256MB CF card ($57 @ Sams)

I have a g3... with a +4 macro lense... but my macro images suck.. bad. Is it because I need a mini tripod? Or is my camera just not good for doing macro shots? Would getting a +10 macro lense be worth it? I saw one at Lensmate for like $70.

You'll either need a tripod or a lot of light. Without one or the other more magnification won't help.

Does anyone have a suggestion on a good mini tripod? I don't mean to hijack this thread, so suggestions in PM would be wonderful.

Im going to have to tryout my tripod, so far I have just been taking the pics by hand.:D

I just thought of something, I cant use a tripod for my macro shots, when I take my macro shots the lens of my camera is only about 3in away form the subject.

If you want newbie pics, then look no further...
I just got my PowerShot G3 today (exactly 5 hours 27 minutes ago :))

I've taken a few pics and got them online... everything is using auto, except for taking off flash in a couple.

Alright here are my newbie pics, I took Lirion's advice and hand held my G3 in broad daylight and came out with some neato pics (well I think they are neato :D)

:) :) :)

[*]Pink Flower
[*]Pink Flower Fuzzies :p
[*]Yellow Flower 1
[*]Yellow Flower 2
[*]Blooming Rose

So what ya think? :D

(By the way, I cropped some and reduced image quality so they would not take 10 years for 56k people to download)

Oh, I've had my Canon G3 for 42 days... and I've never owned more then a point and shoot film camera before that. So I'd say I'm a newb hehehe.

walmart sells this tripod for under $5. the legs are extendable and the head tiltable.
