The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) passed in a 377 to 48 vote on Wednesday, with 188 Democrats voting in favor and just 41 voting "nay."

"The NDAA is a capitulation to the White House's priorities," Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna told Insider on Thursday, adding that it essentially gave Trump "everything he wanted."

The legislation passed as Trump is on the verge of being impeached, in part over allegations he abused power by freezing military aid to Ukraine as part of a scheme to aid his 2020 reelection campaign.

As we can see from actual policy, versus the typical liberal PR speak, there's no meaningful difference between Democrats and Republicans. And, in this specific instance, both are fascist. Orwell put it simply:

Anti-fascist author George Orwell describes fascism in a 1941 essay, "Shopkeepers At War", in economic terms:

Fascism, at any rate the German version, is a form of capitalism that borrows from Socialism just such features as will make it efficient for war purposes... It is a planned system geared to a definite purpose, world-conquest, and not allowing any private interest, either of capitalist or worker, to stand in its way.

Writing for the Tribune in 1944, Orwell stated:[51]

...It is not easy, for instance, to fit Germany and Japan into the same framework, and it is even harder with some of the small states which are describable as Fascist. It is usually assumed, for instance, that Fascism is inherently warlike, that it thrives in an atmosphere of war hysteria and can only solve its economic problems by means of war preparation or foreign conquests. But clearly this is not true of, say, Portugal or the various South American dictatorships. Or again, antisemitism is supposed to be one of the distinguishing marks of Fascism; but some Fascist movements are not antisemitic. Learned controversies, reverberating for years on end in American magazines, have not even been able to determine whether or not Fascism is a form of capitalism. But still, when we apply the term ‘Fascism’ to Germany or Japan or Mussolini's Italy, we know broadly what we mean.

Republicans are quite happy to kill Arab kids, and brutally segregate Native Americans. Democrats are quite happy to kill Arab kids, and brutally segregate Native Americans, thus we see them prove that liberals are conservatives

Title edited to reflect reality and the indisputable meaning of the word "unanimous."

This is grossly oversimplified. You know damn well that there are key differences between Democrats and Republicans. Military boosterism in the US is a problem, but I'm not going to let the anti-science, anti-poor, anti-minority Republicans gain ground by refusing to support Democrats.

Besides, posts like this come across more as holier-than-thou posturing than meaningful discussion. If you really do believe that both major parties in the US are the same and are skewing toward fascism, then what are you going to do about it? Are you actively campaigning for a candidate that rejects hikes in military spending? Are you organizing a revolution to overthrow these parties? Because if all you're doing is moaning on a forum, you're just trying to pad your own ego.

The OP is lashing out because his fair nation just returned Boris Johnson with an even bigger majority than he had before.

I just- what? This doesn't make any sense.

OP, 41 Dems voted against it. If you wanna flog anyone, flog the centrists, at least that would make sense. Or do you think the entirety of the progressive wing are fascists as well?

Who, in your mind, isn't a fascist?

I know that Americans have a habit of interfering with the politics of left wing countries, but this level of projection is off the charts.

You deny that the Democrats voted for giving the US military a pay-rise of 750 billion?

Pray tell, which party did you vote for? I'm going to hazard a guess and say it wasn't the greens.

82% Of the entire Democrat party voted yes on giving the US military even more money to slaughter Arab civilians for corporate gain. Let's put it this way; there are 10 people sitting having dinner. 8 Of them gave 750 billion dollars to an organization dedicated to slaughtering innocent people for corporate gain. 2 Of them made an angry tweet about it, but continue to have dinner with them.

Did the people having dinner fund the slaughter of innocent people?

Liberals are not progressives. They're right wingers. A progressive would be a communist, a socialist, an anarchist. Someone opposed to hierarchy, to economic totalitarianism, to warfare, to segregation, so on and so forth. Liberals are well and truly conservatives, but co-opt phrases and terms from the left wing, in order to appear pristine while shooting an Iraqi schoolchild dead.

The OP is lashing out because his fair nation just returned Boris Johnson with an even bigger majority than he had before.

Not true at all, actually. We voted for the party that is now removing Scotland from the UK. See, this is the difference between the left and the right. Left wingers tend to abhor slaughter, corporate domination, and the destruction of entire countries to ensure corporate hegemony. The right, not so much, as you've proven.

Let's just say that the Liberal Democrats have fooled absolutely nobody, and has had the worst defeat in in the party's history. Scotland utterly rejected the liberals, as they're right wing that throw out PR buzzwoods for brownie points. You Americans seem to have an opposing opinion, in that you deflect because you are fine with slaughtering innocent people by the millions.

The OP had to figure out a way to spin 41 Ds voting against as somehow being worse than only 7 Rs voting against.

41 Democrats make for a whopping 18% of the party. The rest fell in line with the Republican party. What's bigger, 82% or 18%? Is one significantly bigger than the other?

Is that a total of a 1T raise over the last two years? Just who is paying for this now that the wealthy has their permanent tax cuts.

P.S. The gun nuts think that they can challenge a government that has a military with this kind of financial backing. You would think they would be against giant military raises if they're afraid of a tyrannical government. It boggles the mind.

18% voting against the other 82% is still not unanimous. And 18% is also 6 times more 3%, which is the percentage of Republicans who voted against the bill.

You should remember that progress is incremental, by definition. And that expecting to achieve your definition of progress all at once and right now, whether other people like it or now, isn't really that different from fascism.

The 'gun nuts' don't actually expect to overthrow the govt with their toy guns. Their goal is actually the opposite, to support the govt in case 'the left' tries to 'overthrow' it.
