All around summer/winter tires

I have been shopping for new tires for my 2009 Focus, and I narrowed it down to the Continental ExtremeContact DWS. Now it seems as though they are out of stock, everywhere! I can't find any information about it but they seem to be discontinued. Can anyone recommend a reasonable equivalent (All season with good snow performance)?

Yes. I am familiar with tirerack. The problem is I feel like no other tire stacks up to these, and they appear to be either discontinued or on a shortage.

I was hoping someone would have more info (new version coming soon?) or could suggest a suitable replacement (nothing else appears to stack up)

I purposely chose not to go with the DWS because they're out of stock all the time and Continental can never provide a date when the next run will be. They're great tires, but what happens if you have an issue with one and need it replaced and continental can't get you one or even tell you when they'll have one available.

If the Pilot Sport A/S Plus is available in your sizes, I'd look into going that route.

Looking at Ford Focus-ish tire sizes, those look to be ~$150-170 each, when the Kumho Ecsta 4X has better rated snow and ice traction for ~$95 ea. plus a $50 rebate on 4.

I didn't recommend the Ecsta 4X (which I have) earlier because the DWS is a superior winter tire and it doesn't look to be outrageously expensive in those smaller sizes, but if we're going to be downgrading winter performance from DWS levels then it's a standout.

And tire size would help here OP.

FWIW last year I bought a set and heard the same thing about the shortages. I called a local discount tire and they said, yes they are on backorder/short stock, but we can get you a set in 48 hrs.

Check out the Cooper Zeon RS3-A. I have them on my Forester and have been impressed with the overall performance in dry and wet. Reviews are generally quite good around the web. The tread pattern actually bears some resemblance to the DWS. I bought mine from Discount Tire Direct (they often have rebates) and had them mounted at my local America's Tire. Good service all around.

I've never seen the DWS, Ecsta 4X and Pilot Sport A/S Plus compared directly, but if you look at Tire Racks results using the same 2011 E92 328i, you compare the Dry/Wet performance, no snow performance for the Ecsta 4X though. These were obviously done on different days with different conditions, but they're a start.

I just bought some Continental DWS from Tirerack.com just last week. You sure they're out?

By the way, I'm loving these tires. Threw them on my 2013 Shelby GT500 (greater than 600hp and 600 torque) and the grip is vastly improved from the stock tires.

i had the DWS on my last car. got them at america's tire which always seems to have them (cheaper than tirerack when they have those $100 coupons for holidays).

great tires. I came from oem pirelli cintauro p7s i think (summer sports) and the all season sport DWS seemed nearly as good but lasts way longer (they are slightly harder ride i'd say, but barely different)

I have the DWS on my wifes mercedes and the Ecsta 4X on my 73 Corvette.

The DWS are better snow tires, never driven the Corvette in snow but I think this should be easy to see why from others as well, but the Ecsta 4X are better handling tires.

The DWS has very soft sidewalls and will flex under hard driving. The Ecsta 4X are better for performance driving.

For a Focus I would say the DWS would be better if you live in a area that will get snow. If you live where you very little to none then the Ecsta 4X may be better if you like better handling.

I have the DWS on my wife's Milan AWD and I have more fun driving that in the snow than my F-150. We also keep them on all year and they are holding up well.... about two years now.
