God job all of you guys, things are far away from the s4's release. Let's show more positive/negative news about Samsung for users, pre-users and non-users.

What takes so long for reviews to be out? I only saw one from GSMArena and one foreign (Russian?) one with translation.

Actually, it turns out to be neither (well, maybe AT&T gouging super-early pre-orderers). Actual base price: still $200. Didn't expect that.
 
No.. no.. that's not what I meant to ask. I was wondering if there is some sort of embargo imposed on reviewers, or whether review samples weren't plentiful enough. I ventured to think neither is the case. So I presume the most thoughtful reviewers are probably want to gather enough evidence before rendering their verdicts. That takes time and I don't doubt their sincerities. ^^

But surely there are folks who want to boost their pageviews? It's strangely quiet for a device with so much hype.

It was something in their S3 review last year that put me off. I guess I can look at their S4 review when I have the time. Also, I'm very suspicious of any place that gets its hands on a product before others. That usually means they and the manufacturer have a very good relationship and that cannot be a good thing for viewers...

The relationship with manufacturer is a two edged sword. Take Anand and Intel as an example. We get excellent info, but it tends to be just a bit bend - and its difficult to point exactly where the problem is. Its not intentional, but its difficult to avoid. But i think we can judge by ourselves and i prefer the early og good info.

For me it looks like gsmarena gets all their phones early. LG optimus G pro, is an recent example of that. And they have good more objective tools to compare the products. The photo comparison tool, is an excellent way to judge the phones. You should try it.

You reply made me look back at the s3 review, and i dont find anything suspicious today. Far from. When i read it back then i had the feeling, as you, it was a bit on the positive side. I dont get the same impression today. gsmarene was spot on then, and history proved them right. They tend to be very positive about all their phones/gear, but thats just their style. And i like it that way. I only find anandtech phonereviews better. And btw, the s3 review here, resembled a lot of gsmarena.

Regarding the s4, gsmarena was the first to rightfully critizize the s4 video in their review.

You can bash Samsung, but they dont generally get credit for what they do by the reviewers. That will probably change within the next year, but hopefully not so we end in the nonsense blind apple follower reviews.

Today we have people thinking the ip5 camera is the best in the world. If there is some company that manages to create stupid storries about their products its apple, and because of their size and marketing capacity, they get a lot of good reviews. Its only starting to stop, because people is getting outrigt bored.

You may be right. It may not be the phone or even Samsung. It's the website. I'm not a fan of cheery websites. To me, it means they want to stay in the good graces of the manufacturers. This is understandable considering it's a cut-throat business and they have eat too but it makes me suspicious. Also, I value the comment section as much as the review and everyone there is extremely cheerful as well...as if they all won the lottery or something. All this happiness makes me extremely suspicious so I just dismiss them.

I think their comment section is fun. Just think of it as entertainment and not insight 🙂
