Hey guys,
What are your OC Numbers (Core and Mem) and state whether you have stock cooling, or modded to a different heatsink. I have a 9800 Pro BBA and am running at 378.00 and 328.91. I flashed it to a XT, but since I have stock cooling I don't want to leave anything to chance. On Saturday I will get an Arctic VGA Silencer Rev 3 (thanks everyone for the reccomendation!) and I wanted to know what the OC Numbers will be should/be with aftermarket cooling.
Thanks,
Kishan

BBA ATI 9800 Pro 256mb
VGA Silencer
412/365 @ 70C
435/395 max OC

The temps on my card r da sux. I'm not sure if the temp diode sucks, or just my card. I've read that a lot of other people avg my temps, while many others avg 40-60C. Very odd. Just to let you know, everyone's card will OC differently.

mines an ATI 9800Pro 256/256 > ati 9800XT.

My VGA cooler is expected tomorrow . . . meanwhile w/Overdrive enabled minimum core/memory is 418Mhz/400 . . . w/temperatures ~70 C;

we'll see if it o/c s further w/the new cooler.

Redundant? I don't think so. BBA is a board "Built by ATI", not Chaintech, or MSI, or Asus ... or Sapphire.

Well BBA/ATI is redundant: <<Built by ATI/ati>>

It should simply be "Chaintech 9800" or "MSI 9800" or ati 9800 . . .

why "BBA ATI?" :p

Clearly if it's ati it's also BBA

no?!

yes!?

Just stuck a Arctic VGA silencer r3 on my NewEgg $223 ati 9800pro 256/256 > XT . . .

it took about 20 minutes (i actually read the instructions - that took 1/3 of the time) . . . removing the tiny clips on the ATI HS took the longest (they don't say, but if you remove the 2 PINS on the other side of the HS, it is easier to take out the barbs)

don't use much thermal compound (ati SLATHERED it on my GPU) and make damn sure the lockdown clamp fits exactly (there are 2 ways to do it - 1 right) and locks down tight (without cracking the card).

it fit perfectly EXCEPT there is only a TWO wire plug from the Arctic HS that fits into a 3 wire plug on my GPU - make SURE the fan spins when you turn it on; if not, move the plug to cover the other terminal)

RESULTS:

Noise - YES, i can hear it in my closed case but BARELY and ONLY on HI ("low" is pretty quiet and i can't hear it over my ThermalTake 480w which is pretty quiet, anyway)

COOLING: At LEAST 10 C cooler and usually 15 C cooler

Verdict: Thumbs UP (for $11)

:)

Built by ATI 9800 pro 128mb with 360 core with Arctic Silencer rev 3. Flashed to XT bios in the blink of an eye. It runs perfectly at 412/365, but for usual applications I underclock it. Since it's a 128, it doesn't have the temp sensor, and I don't want to push my luck too bad.

The results were tremendous. 5000 points in aq3, and can run UT04 with 4x aa and 16x af at 1600x1200 on onslaught maps at 50+ fps.

I have a BBA 9800pro 128MB. How safe can I generally go with OC with just the stock fan? I already have Radclocker/linker/whatever installed but so far am too worried to tweak anything...

Sapphire 9800 Pro Atlantis flashed to XT (XT pwa r360 core)
Stock fan and heatsink
I run in 3d mode at 420/370 for hours with no problems, max ATI tool stable oc is around 430/380
Highest temp I've seen in around 71-72 full load, idle is around 65-66.

When playing games, I run it at XT speeds. When I really want to push it, it will reach 430/375 without any problems.

The difference between pro speed and xt speed is tremendous. I only go higher for benchmarking.

it is SO easy to change the VGA cooler and makes a BIG difference in temps and O/C'ing . . . you can leave it permanently o/c'd if you like wih much less worries. ;)

I have a better vga cooler... I just only use the high clock speeds for games and such. It's overkill for internet explorer :).

i c . . . safer to err on the side of caution.

since my temps are below 60 C (now) . . . i don't worry any longer . . . but then i let OverDrive take care of the 0/C . . .

when my "xt" is starting to feel slow, i'll disable Overdrive and go for the highest permanent O/C that is stable (dropping back for IE6 like you do now). :)

128 MB Sapphire 9800 Pro, R360 core, VGA Silencer Rev3. Flashed to XT bios at 412/365. No way to tell the temperature, but it certainly seems cooler even than running at stock speeds with the stock cooling. I may try to push the OCing more once I see how d3 and hl2 are going to run...
