I didn't realize there were any captains after Patrick Stewart (who is the greatest captain of all btw).

Because Kirk, Picard, Sisko and Archer NEVER violated the prime directive.

When you're some 75 years away from Federation space at maximum warp, pretty sure the prime directive is somewhat flexible.

Janeway definitely had it worse than the others due to her situation, but there were many times where her self righteousness just made things worse. And it wasnt like she was morally right, it was fairly arbitrary. Picard was similar, except he always took the moral high ground. Sisko eventually got down and dirty, but he was dealing with truly treacherous people and had to in order to survive. Kirk stated many times that the Prime Directive was more of a guideline, and whats right is right, even when he was wrong! hahaha Archer was by far the weakest captain, but I think if the series went longer he would have been written better. He had to have that "first time in the big city" feeling about him due to the nature of the series.

Even though I complain about Janeway, only Voyager and TOS are the series I watched all of. The first few seasons of DS9 and TNG were horrible, and Enterprise didnt get good until the last half of the last season.

I enjoy her "grizzly" voice. My jaw dropped when I first heard her voiceovers in SWTOR.

I was watching the episodes of Warehouse 13 on Netflix and was surprised when Kate Mulgrew appeared in a couple episodes.

The Voyager series was one of my favorites. I even ended up buying a couple of the novels that continued their story after making it back to Earth.

That is a great subject of debate. Most people will agree that Picard is the best but you cannot argue the fact that Kirk is the original and icon, something Picard cannot touch. So the answer is there is no "one" it will always be two

Last year William Shatner produced the documentary The Captains in which he interviewed every captain from the Star Trek franchise,

When did this happen, when is it coming out???
I tried to watch it. What I saw was awful.

To me, there's almost nothing more torturous than watching Bill conduct an interview.

idk, how can Bill speaking be awful, how can Patrick speaking be awful... you must not be a die hard Trek fan... it has to be "okay" at worst... eldorado99 said if post #28 that he watched it and he was not disappointed...

To be honest, I don't remember much about the Abrams film, except that Kirk was a punk and Sulu was more of a bad ass. Yeah, Harold was a tougher guy than Kirk.

I remember quite a lot about the movie. I liked it a lot. The red matter was a macguffin.

something that didn't *need* to be explained to drive the plot. The advisability of introducing such a thing to into a film meant to appeal to a certain audience is of course questionable but I was able to look past it.

Agreed about Sulu. You can't imagine the debates I've seen in some forums about his action scene on the platform....

But I liked the movie overall.

WTF? Is Kirk going to anal-rape that alien with that phallus?

It's not rape if you yell "SURPRISE!!" :p

Cpt. Kirk wasn't looking to knock-out the alien, he was looking to improve interplanetary relations in the way that he best knew how.

im still trying to understand who in their right mind would go at all

I wouldn't go to freaking London, however WW Philly will already be epic b/c of Stan Lee/Bruce Campbell/Shatner. I wouldn't be surprised if Picard shows up to complete the Captains in Philly, but I think Creation Entertainment (Picard's rep) is preventing this from happening in the US b/c they want next year's 25th Anniversary to be big. The UK is a different story and they know most Trekkies aren't to make the trip for that and they can still hold out for another huge payday for Picard's US reunion.

Like a lot of the old time TOS fans, I wasnt particularly fond of the re-imagining of the classic characters, but as a Star Trek movie I would probably only put Wrath of Kahn ahead of it.

She's probably the best captain of the bunch, even moreso for having to overcome sexual discrimination in the future.

:whiste: Please, I could never get into that series no matter how hard I tried. It was just unwatchable... and I have no problem with a woman captain.

I watched ToS repeats on Sci-Fi a lot. I had reservations about whether they would pick the right people to play the characters. Unlike the more kneejerk reactionary Star Trek: ToS fans amongst us I thought overall they made a good movie that respected the source material.
