how is the sound on this or equivalent Denon compared to high end Onkyo receivers like the TX-SR876?

Any well designed solid state amp will sound the same as another when they are outputting the same power to the same speakers using the same processing.
 
i guess it depends on how you define terms but to me Pre-Pro means you can't use it alone as in it has no amp section. the RX-A3000 has an amp section, but its not a stand alone amp, so its classified as an AVR, IMO sounds warmer and clearer then my Denon, however its not a good comparison because the Yamaha is a much higher end unit then the Denon 1910 better DACs and internals
